I know Jeep puts a cover over the USB media ports and 12v plug (a.k.a. cigarette lighter port) on the dash to keep dirt and debris out. But has anyone removed those covers and, if so, how did you do it? The one over the USB ports looks like it's a pinned hinge that I could maybe just push out???

looking at my 2024 it looks like it would be pretty simple to push the roll pin out. I would think if you never want to put it back it would be easy to just take a pair of dykes and and cut the plastic off.

I tried to remove the USB cover on my 22 a couple years ago, because I always keep a cord plugged into it for my phone. I couldn't move the pin with what I considered to be reasonable force.

I don't use the 12v plug unless my wife needs to charge her phone, but I have a cord plugged into the USB-C media port 24-7.

What I did to allow it to *mostly* close was bought a little pack of right-angle USB-C adapters on Amazon. They have ones that point down or out - I went with out to keep the cable out of the way of the other buttons below it.

Much more clean, and I bought a blue-wrapped USB cable long enough to wrap around the shifter knob (automatic, wouldn't do it on a manual for hopefully obvious reasons) loosely. This keeps the plug end pretty much always near where I put my phone (in the slot between the cupholders).

I searched my saved Jeep web pages but couldn't find it, nor did Google help but a couple years ago a U.S. accessory company had silicone replacement covers for those two 'doors'. The media one had slots to seal around a plugged in cable. Came in a bunch of colors.

Maybe someone else remembers who made them?

I did the same. It's an improvement. No cover would be better, though.

I found a thread from 2019

https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/safe-way-to-remove-media-cover.27923/

That says the 12v cover can have the pin pushed out, but the media cover was more of an issue. Hoping maybe someone has found an easier way since then.
That's the exact thread that I was going to recommend.

One idea not previously suggested, until now :), is to figure out how to align the ports themselves with the cover, and then carefully drill/cut the cover in such a way that just the ports are exposed (for use) with the media cover fully lowered. Granted, you'd have to have a steady hand to make the cuts non-ugly.

----------------

By way of example, the foregoing is exactly what some fellow owners in the Suzuki dual sport community have done, when wanting an easy way to remove the seat bolts (for access to the battery and etc.) without having to remove the plastic side panels first. Doing so can be a bit annoying if one has low-profile luggage side racks installed, as I do. Certain rack designs make panel removal difficult if not impossible, sans removing the racks themselves first.

The holes are drilled at the tip of the reference arrow, which then provide access to the otherwise hidden seat bolts.
