Ive seen that video...good stuff!

I did not have a front bumper on, it was just a steel frame... that could have caused extra wind resistance.

However, the removal did affect the exhaust velocity and power was down. Before exhaust removal I could be in 6th going 70 mph; w/o I had to be in 5th.
It can't be that big a difference. You'd need a dyno to assess the difference because it's negligible for a human to tell.

Yeah, James, I don't deny you experienced a difference but it is extremely unlikely it is related to the muffler removal. Unfortunately, there's just not that much power difference to be gained/lost with the exhaust (post cat). At most, 1-2HP either way but not something you would feel.

does the JL have muffler and resonator up front as well? meaning, if it does, then should be legal to remove muffler

is there a muffler delete for JL?

There is the cat and resonator...then muffler.

Don’t think it’s illegal to remove the muffler...

I am new to the site and to confirm. I also removed my muffler day three of having my Rubi and it hasn't affected anything. the sound is awesome. Above about 3000 rpm it reminds me of a nice Nissan 350z or 370z with performance exhaust. My MPG are still great and way better than my hemi grand cherokee. Not sure what would've affected your mileage that greatly on yours but mine has not seen one MPG difference when cruising around town or the highway. I do know sometimes the ear to foot syndrome kicks in and we tend to give it more gas. I would be interested to hear what else or how bad the mileage is on yours though. Maybe something else is at play here.

Anything post-catalytic converter is fair game for removal from an emissions perspective. Then you just have to worry about the sound police.

Don't forget CARBON MONOXIDE POISENING !!!

If you remove the muffler and just leave/turn down the exhaust pipe--dangers at standstill idle !

I hate to be mean.. but I really miss v8's and this thread is depressing..

I have 440 in my 1973 cj6... sounds like it should..

I have not even drove my JL yet and now I'm ready for a engine swap..

Even my 200hp 1991 K5 sounded better that a 3.6 no matter what you do to it..

Just goes to show, "the only substitute for cubic inches is cubic feet"!

Have a great Easter!

There's a rumour that this weekend America is going to tell California to stuff it and V8s are going to become great again. Fingers crossed! :captain:

That sounds awesome! Might have to do this. This sound and my manual transmission is going to make my mpg go down...

Assuming you have a V8 K5 (they also came in I6 apparently), the better sound you're talking about has nothing to do with displacement but the crank design:

The PUG version of the 3.6L sounds very much like a Nissan VQ motor. Reminds me of a 370Z.

Engine Masters did an episode not long ago where they proved that the backpressure thing is a myth. Engines want to exhale. The more air you move, the better. But at a certain point you have to alter the engine tuning to take advantage of it.
