FCA reps were at my dealer today, and made mention that the automatic Rubi and Saharas may not need the remote start option to be able to remote start. They said the 8.4 uconnect allows the app to remote start the vehicle (from anywhere...Not distance limited like the fob button...of course this assumes you have the whole Sirius stuff active and maybe a data connection active....I'm not sure). Since I got a manual this isn't something I cared to learn about but something others may want to learn about!

Can anyone elaborate more? Or confirm this?

If that's the case, distance wouldn't be an issue. I hope this is true

From UConnect Site said:
Vehicle must be within the contiguous United States, have network coverage and must be registered with Uconnect® Access with an active subscription that includes the applicable feature. Vehicle must be registered for Uconnect Access and you must fulfill minimum subscription requirements. It must also be equipped with features that enable remote commands, such as keyless entry, and must be in active and usable wireless network range. The Uconnect App must be installed and launched on your mobile device to use these remote commands. Remote features are available only on vehicles that are properly equipped. Check state and local laws regarding the use of remote start systems. When properly equipped.

I know the app works they demo'd it for me l, but I didn't realize uconnect could do it without the full on remote start package option. I guess when you drive a computer it has a lot of built in stuff more so than actual remote engagement mechanical components.

I think it has to be equipped with remote start to use that feature of the app... I have it on the grand Cherokee... it’s nice when you are in a restaurant etc..... but, big but, it also has a subscription fee which isn’t cheap after the initial trial, so it’s no free way out even if you actually don’t need remote start, which I’m fairly certain you do.

Distance is not an issue if you use the AT&T data packages $10 a month for unlimited if your an AT&T person already, $20 a month if you arent.

The other thing about doing it through uconnect is that its hit or miss in that it sometimes doesn't work or that it takes it a while for the request to get to your Jeep. I was testing it on our Grand Cherokee one night. It was parked outside and I was going to move it into the garage. I used the App to remote start it but when I went outside, it wasn't started. I moved it into the garage, closed the door and went into the house. About 5 minutes later my wife says "umm, why is the jeep running in the garage?". It had started after I came in (at least 10 minutes later).

Yea I drove a BMW for work once that used an app similar to uconnect, the remote options were spotty on that too....of course I was in deep parts of Mississippi so that could have been a factor also.

I had Blue link on my last car and I was able to remote start the car which did not have the remote start capability on the key-fob and it was awful. Half he time I couldn't get the app to work, or by the time it did come up I was already at the car and I had to pay the subscription fee each year (which I canceled). In the morning it will be much easier to just press the key fob to start the car when gettng ready for work, instead of trying to get the app working, of course maybe uconnect is better then Blue Link, I hope it is.

When my son was born, I was in the hospital for 3 days with my wife. I though I parked on a certain floor, and when I got to where I thought my truck was it was gone! I was panicking trying to figure out where it was so that I could go pick up my family at the front. Luckily I had the 8.4 Uconnect in my Ram at that time and was able to set off the alarm from my phone. Fortunately it was just my lack of sleep. I parked a few floors up from where I thought I parked and my Truck was still there. :giggle:
I think the remote start feature through the app would be much more beneficial than with the remote. I usually park far enough away when I'm at work that it wouldn't be of much use(I'm getting a 6spd, so no luck for me.)

That’s quite the health hazard. How many more celebrities does FCA want to kill?
