Ugh. I apologize. It was just a joke. I don't consider myself a "real Jeep" guy whatever that is. That's why I put it in quotes. And I am certainly not judging anyone else on whether they are or not and if it reads that way then I definitely am sorry about that.

It was just as much a joke about "Real Jeep" guys who are upset about the Wrangler softening up as about the guys complaining about having to push a button to unlock doors on a vehicle where the doors come off. To me there is some humor in there somewhere but I guess it came out wrong.

And I don't want to derail this thread. For reference, my mom's car has this feature and it is convenient. And it is a Honda Accord so not in the price range of a high trim Wrangler.
Sorry, I'm somewhat sensitive to this having been in plenty of other forums where there was a lot of random name calling in a "Jeep community" dogging people out for having a JKU because no true Wrangler would ever have 4 doors. These are the communities where the majority think the only true Wrangler is a sport with manual Windows and a 4" lift with 37s (not that there is anything wrong with that either). No worries, just didn't want things in this forum to slip in that direction since people in this forum are generally pretty darned awesome. That includes you brother. That was before my coffee, to be fair.

Not sure there is a typical situation for push button start. We've had two Prius, a Lexus, and an Audi that all had push button start and if it came with push button start it automatically had proximity/passive entry. I've seen cheaper cars like a Focus or Corolla without it even though they had push button. I'm just saying on a 50K-ish Sahara or Rubi it should have been included and not an upcharge. I still paid for it but wasn't stoked about having to on a car that $$$ already.
Both our cars have prox entry and push button start. Agree it should be included, but I don't want a vehicle without it now. Things like that and wipers/lights I like being automatic as they aren't part of my driving experience. Then again I want a manual so what I think adds to the experience may be off-base!

What does that mean? What is a real Jeep guy? I thought we were a community with different needs and wants that all share a common love of an awesome vehicle. Maybe “real” means something different to you. BTW, this is our third Wrangler and with my new Rubi my wife and I will be a two Wrangler family, both our DDs.
Come on, we all know who the "real jeep guys" are! Anyone with a 2 door Wrangler. Especially with a manual/standard trans, but preferably a pre-JK era Jeep. lolol.

Okay, so on a serious note- My question is, if push-button start is standard across the board, but the base models have manual windows + locks, what kind of key fob will the base Sport come with?

I'm going to spring for the prox key, if only because the new key fob is so ridiculous that if I'm carrying it, I won't be able to fit much else in my hands/pockets/etc. I'd rather leave the thing at the bottom of my bag.

THE SYSTEM WORKS GREAT.

To unlock the door grab the door handle (ONLY)

To lock the door push the button (ONLY)

If you grab the handle and push the button your door will do (nothing).

You have to do one or the other.

TRY IT WORKS VERY WELL.

Remote Proximity Keyless Entry....

A couple of months ago this option was seeing a lot of negative talk here on the forum..

Some here were saying it was not working right, would not work right if you had recently used the fob to remote start the vehicle.

Anyway, lots of negative chatter. I had not acquired my JL so did not know what to believe..

Well, after having had my 2dr. JL for over 6 weeks now, I can report that the Remote Proximity Keyless Entry works as advertised and is a pure pleasure to have on the Jeep Wrangler. Glad I spent the $ on this option.

Yes, if you don't follow the instructions in the manual in regard to using the Remote Proximity Keyless Entry, then yes, you will have issues.

Indeed, it took me a few days to learn the lets call it drill, but yes it works great.

Yes, works great even if i just used the fob to remote start the vehicle, etc..

I also like it, and have no regrets. Money well spent.

That said, I’d prefer if it’d automatically lock when I walk away like my GMC does.

I couldn't wait. I have been accused of impatience in the past...

If I get a wild hair and order the diesel down the line, I will add it. I can live without it for now.
Since Wranglers are the most after market modified vehicle... have you seen if there will be an option to add that when you don't have it on the JLU? I apologize if I missed it in a previous response. Thanks for any info !

Maybe they'll start making a holster for it.
I plan on doing just that. I make custom holsters and I am planning some with a belt clip and some with a carabiner ... stay tuned if you’re interested

Now that I have proximity, I won't go without...
On both, you slide your hand in to unlock. I was able to program the Toyota for only one or all four doors unlock.
As far as the button.
- Toyota has a sensor on the exterior handle - couple lines and you touch to lock.
- My RAM looks like the above picture... a button to lock everything. I expect the Wrangler to be the same.

I will get a long range remote start put on our jeep when it comes in and for another $70 they will add the proximity feature to it.
Sorry, but to confirm bc I love this option... Jeep at some point have a modification available to turn the JLU handles to change out so you can have the keyless entry?
