You do know that other people havve different Jeeps with different transmissions and different ways they use them, right?

I don't want to shock you too much, but it doesn't always have to be about you.
I know reading comprehension is tough, but the OP stated factory 4.56 gears (only available with the auto). Why would the recommendations on THIS thread consider other vehicles with other transmissions? That just confuses the OP who wanted to know if it's worth regearing for 37s. Most everyone, likely even you, would agree that it's not necessary or worth the money to regear from 4.56s with the auto for 37s? To me that's the perfect combo. Some might prefer 4.88s, but even most of them wouldn't spend the money for it. Even with a manual it would be hard to justify but that's irrelevant to the topic. If the OP asked what gears would I suggest for an 85 tacoma on 37s with the 22re I'd probably suggest the deepest gears you can get for the axle...and a tcase doubler...and maybe a turbo on top of that.

Over here in the corner eating popcorn. Thinking to myself. Sport S 96k miles on stock 3.45 (M220 rear) and plenty of wheeling on the rocks. Barney rubble, Crawl daddy, Crawler ridge and Fern ridge. Drive down the highway at 80mph turning 2300 rpm's and average 17 -19 mpg is good with me.

One thing I would add to consideration is if you have 4.1 to begin with, going to 4.56 would be waste of money in my opinion. The gap is too small to justify the cost. Same goes to 3.73 to 4.1. I would go directly to 4.88. Might be slightly aggressive but gives you some flexibility for 37s in the future.
I see your point, but I don’t do much rock crawling…this is my daily driver and the 3.45 gears my jeep came with just don’t feel right with 35s, but with the 8spd transmission, it’s not terrible…so I think 4.56s would work well with 37s as well IMHO.

Over gearing is definitely not a great idea. And with the JL axles, the 5.38 pinion head diameter is too small for my tastes.

I also agree that you don't need to pull 8th gear up any significant hill.

But you really do want to get to the sweet spot where you can comfortably cruise down a flat freeway (around 65-70+) in 8th gear.

Sure, the wide spread between 1st and 8th means you won't spend much time in lower gears on the street. But having those deeper gears for off road trails is really a good thing.

So I'm all for choosing the right gear for the tires you are running. And that is absolutely influenced by the engine and transmission, not to mention the intended use of the Jeep.

Overall, with the 2.0 and automatic, either 4.88 or 5.13 is much better than 5.38. But if you're running the 3.6 with the manual and you rock crawl a lot without spending much time on high speed limit interstates, maybe 5.38 is better for the exact same tires.

There's almost never one single answer that applies universally to every Jeep.
I went 5.13s because I have the manual and tow a an off-road trailer when we either are going to a rock crawling location like Moab or overlanding. I am on 35s and will be going to BFG 37s (with 60-day satisfaction guarantee) during which I will pull the trailer up to Flagstaff at least once to have a comparison to the old 35s. With the 35s I can hold 50 mph while towing the 2800 lb trailer up 6-8% grades.

I have the 2.0, 37" ko2's. Went from 4.10 to 5.13 and I can tell you the money would have been better spent elsewhere.
