I am going to install wheel spacers on my Jeep. (by myself). On the front wheels, i see that you should use some sort of crowbar or breaker bar. i dont have that, but i do have a steel rebar, and was wondering if that is ok/safe to use. its about 3 ft long, so it should be perfect, but wanted some advice if ok to use.

Wait. What?

Where are you using any of that?

1. Don't use rebar as a prying instrument. It's not hardened and will bend if enough force is applied.
2. I have done my own spacer lift, and I have no idea where you would be using a 3 foot long prybar.

Disconnect the sway bar, disconnect the shocks, loosen the track bar at the axle, and jack up one side at a time from the frame, and the springs will be pretty easy to get in and out.

He's installing wheel spacers.. if you are by yourself and don't have someone to press the brake pedal, you can't torque them correctly. You use a crow bar, pry bar or anything else to keep that hub from spinning..

I read that completely wrong.

Carry on.

Wouldn't it be easier to just press the brake pedal down with a 2x4 (or something similar) captured with the driver's seat?

It should get the job done.

I'd wrap it in a paper towel if it's in contact with lug studs, just to help reduce damage on the threads.

I do this all the time..as was said use a piece of 2x2 or 2x4 to wedge the brake peddle down super easy to do that way. when I run my stock wheels I run 1" BORA spacers and when I run my AEV wheels I pull the spacers off so super easy doing it this way.

I'll probably take a brow beating for this but would a set of inexpensive steel wheels be an alternative to wheel spacers, or rubi take off wheels?

Some of those spacers can get pricy.

Standard rubicon wheels have the same backspace/offset as the other 17s.

rubicon wheels with 1" spacers end up with about the perfect offset. But quality BORA spacers are not cheap but if you like stock wheels a good way to go.

All JL/JT wheels that are 17" are +44mm offset and 7.5" wide (except Mojave at +37)
Adding any factory wheels won't help push the tires out farther. There aren't and cheap steel wheels in those sizes either.
If you want to run a 12.5" wide tire with narrow axles, its new wheels or spacers.

It’s been a few years but I don’t think I had help or used something to hold the pedal. I think I used a big screwdriver or pry bar in the rotor vent against the caliper.
