I'm always amazed when I read posts on here about people involved in accidents, not knowing how auto insurance works and what's covered by their policy and what's covered by the other driver's policy. At minimum, insurance policies renew once a year and new policy documents are provided to the insured. Please take a moment to read through those documents so that you can better understand what you're coverage provides. Insurance is typically a pay and forget thing, but when it is needed, it is best to know what you have and how it works.

Also,, a good insurance agent should help explain and educate the insured on what is covered and next steps. You pay good money for insurance make sure they provide good customer service when needed...

You don't even need to read it. Call your agent or broker and ask them pointed questions.
How often do you think they get a chance to "insurance nerd" stuff up? They LOVE to talk about it. Lol.

My wife used to manage a State Farm office, and I'm one of those guys who actually reviews the biannual policy declaration packets that accompany the premium renewal billings. I like to know what I'm paying for.

Between her job knowledge and my interest in actually knowing the fine print, some of the forum posts I've read, both here and on other forums, reveal a remarkable unfamiliarity (to put it politely) with what is usually an expensive and compulsory contractual agreement for most folks.

Yes, a phone call to one's agent is always easy, and should occur anyway when a collision occurs. What's left unsaid is the importance of forearming one's self with the knowledge of the policy's contents. That is what gives you the ability to ask probing questions, in your own self interest, that the agent might forget to mention, or not mention unless explicitly asked. That is much preferred to bunting to discussion forums for anecdotal advice that may or may not be worth the bandwidth it consumes.

Not trying to give a hard time, but do you honestly believe that your agent/broker knows what's in your policy any more than someone else's, without having to look it up in their system? Sure you can chit chat about insurance all you want, but how can you ask pointed questions about your policy if you don't even know what's in it?

You’re right. I didn’t see it at first but looking at it in the light I see it now

I hope no one was injured in any of these cases. Mine was a hit and run, but found a town over broken down. I've been waiting to do bumpers and tires and stuff. Not any more. Ironman raid series rear bumper is in the garage waiting to go on after the body shop fixes things up, rear dash cam is now installed.

I'm not sure how it works in the US but here in Canada we don't get customised insurance for each individual. So yes, an agent or broker should fully be aware of what's covered or not covered for their specific company.

And if I called my agent of broker to ask pointed questions, why wouldn't they look up my specific policy that I am asking about?

In the US you can customize your insurance policy to suit your needs.

I didn't say they would not look it up. My point is that they have to look it up, since each policy is different. They'd have no way of knowing what's in my policy vs. what's in yours without looking it up. Of course, this is all based on US coverage/policies.

Ahh ok. That's where we differ then. Fair enough.

Every time I see one of these " Rear-Ended" posts, with the photos of how the spare tire absorbed a lot of the impact, I am glad Jeep has kept that big shock absorber on the back. No Spare Delete for me !
