I am trying to determine what rear differential gear ratio I have in my 2022 Willys 2 door, 3.6/ 8 speed with 0EM 32" tires. It is listed as "overall top gear ratio 3.45".
So, does that mean it is a 3.45 ratio? Or is it a combination of tire size, transmission and rear end ratio? Why not just say rear diff. ratio gearing 3.45?
Can someone please clarify for me? The "overall top gear ratio" designation is throwing me. Thank you.

3.45 is correct. It’s simpler to only refer to the ring and pinion when talking gear ratios because everyone’s build/setup is different.

If you’re shopping for new gears based on a tire size change, there are a ton of options depending on the type of driving, transmission choice, transfer case ratio, and vehicle weight.

Almost everyone with an auto is happy with the standard 4.10 that come in a rubicon with 33’s, but some of the manually owners prefer 4.56 or even 4.88.

Bigger tires generally require a lower gear ratio (higher numerically) for optimal performance, but I recommend planning ahead and only regearing once. It is not cheap!

Thanks for the info. I am looking to update down the road.

I also am trying to determine what rear differential gear ratio I have in my 2022 Rubicon Unlimited 4 door, 3.6 W/8 speed auto, fitted originally with Xtreme Recon 35" tire package BFG LT315/70R17C 113/110S tires. I bought this 2022 used with only 10,325 miles and the prior owner replaced the BFG's with 285/70R17 Falken Wild Peak MT. I do notice the speedo is off by about 5.5% at 70 mph. I've look at the diff cover and see only numbers (probably just p/n rear 10110510 112-2 and front 10110513 135-2 and see no metal tags with number.

Probably 4.56, but I think 4.88 was an option. If you don’t have your window sticker, you can pull it online.

Thanks for the prompt reply @GATORB8 I do have the window sticker but it also does not indicate any ratio. Where would I get it online?

I’m guessing you have 4.56 gears if you have the XR package and 4.88s aren’t listed as an option on your window sticker.

If you don’t have the 4.88 option, 4.56s were in the Xtreme Recon package:

Thanks again Matt. Attached is the window sticker. Not sure it is the Extreme Recon package but only the Recon tire package?
