Rear Camera Cover Useless?

So...the chintzy locking mechanism on my JL's rear camera cover broke today, which isn't surprising. I couldn't believe it even lasted this long, but I'm not sure the cover is really worth replacing. After all, it's one more thing that requires one more tool when I need to remove my spare tire, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't effectively protect the camera at all.

While the cover just seems to be there for aesthetic purposes, I am curious if anyone sees a real need for it or could offer a good reason for purchasing a replacement. I know it's probably a waste of money, but just curious what our peanut gallery has to say. Fire away, folks!

Been running without mine for 3 years.

It affects the wheels from turning, the complete 4x4 system, fuel delivery, the lifter timing, proper wiper function, and the hidden satellite antenna!

The lock mechanism is a real joke. Mine fell apart at around 100Kmi. If you push it in with a screwdriver, the backing pops off and the pieces will just fall out.
