I had the clutch recal performed a few months ago and ever since I’ve had this rattle or chatter noise when shifting from 4th to 3rd. It only happens once in a while. It only started after the clutch was replaced. Of course the dealer can’t reproduce it. Has anyone had this happen to them. I’m thinking maybe springs in the flywheel. If I could figure out how to reproduce it might be able to get it fixed.

I have the same issue as it started a few weeks after the clutch recall was performed. The Service Director at my dealership was able to duplicate it and said it is 'clutch chatter' and apparently I am one of three people locally that had the issue.

Here is the weird part.....I have a 2021 JLUR and in January (When only 2023's were being handled) I got a call from my dealer saying they had the parts and wanted to schedule me for the recall. I thought nothing of it and got it done. When I brought it back a few weeks later to inquire about this issue I experienced when downshifting to 3rd while slowing down (and even 2nd at times), the Service Director replicated it and called me to confirm this was chatter....but that they mistakenly installed a 2023 clutch kit on a 2021 and until Jeep had an answer for how to address or parts availability for a 2021, his hands were tied. Additionally, he also confirmed my suspicion that there should not be a difference in the parts or software for a 23 vs. 21 but until he had a path forward from Jeep, he had to wait for that in order to resolve my issues. He assured me it was completely safe to drive as long as I didn't downshift to slow down at higher rpm's and waited until I was driving much slower to downshift to 3rd. In the meantime we waited for parts availability and stayed in contact until recently now that I received the letter and that I could see the parts are available.

So as of now, its been just fine to drive and just annoying that I cannot slow the car down at higher speeds through downshifting like I have been able to do with every other manual trans I have owned in the past 35 years. He has the 2021 parts on order for me and I go in on 8/26 for round 2.

Since he has not gotten any "in case of clutch chatter issues after completing the recall" guidance, I will probably get a whole new clutch kit assuming they don't find any other issues upon a re-inspection.

Hopefully that helps as I know its validating in these forums to learn that 'its not just you' with these issues :)

I’m glad to know I’m not the only one. I e spoken to the dealer once before but they were unable to reproduce it. It happens only occasionally. I’ve got it in right now for the passenger heated seat and to fix what they broke when they installed a new top. Hopefully I can get the clutch chatter resolved as well

Fingers crossed......if it's possible, use your phone to make a video or even just an audio recording of the chatter, if you are experiencing it in certain conditions. That is at least some evidence you can point to.

Good luck and I will let you know what the resolution is when I go back on the 26th to drop it off.

It looks like this was fixed via a recent over the air update of software, done on the down low. The dealer verified that the clutch replacement that was completed as part of the recall, was in good shape and no debris was found. They could not reproduce the chatter given the software update, so I am picking it up later today. Fingers crossed. These guys are pretty good so I tend to believe this may be resolved.

Good to know. The dealer was unable to reproduce it on mine. I had it happen twice the night I picked it up

There is no difference in the clutch between year models that would make it incompatible.

Any new news on this? I had the clutch recall done about 4 months ago and if I downshift to a lower gear at about 3.5-4k RPM, I get this loud chatter noise. I was thinking the clutch just needs to be broken in, but it's been over 4 months! It's very easy for me to reproduce and I'll try to get a video of it tomorrow. I really don't want to have to take it back to the dealership. I understand my Jeep did not receive the software update. From what I'm told if the font used for the 6th gear display is slanted/italics it's still the old version of software.

I'll chime in as well - 2020 JT Gladiator. I am on the original clutch (have not had recall done) and started randomly getting chatter on 4th - 3rd downshifts a couple weeks ago. Current mileage 40,500. I have not had it in to the dealer yet since I cannot consistently reproduce the issue (sometimes it goes days or a week without doing it, then it will do it 3 times on the same 15 mile trip.

So what ever ended up happening? I have a 21 JLU that had the clutch recall done at the dealer right before I bought it.

I have only driven it maybe 200 miles since and had it do this a couple times.

Will it break in? Do I need to take it back?

Still having the issue. Dealer was not able to replicate on their short around the block test drive. I just double clutch 4th to 3rd downshifts and that seems to alleviate the issue 99% of the time.

anyone else get an actual diagnosis or solution?
