Raptor Gen3, 2024 - 392 On Order, Red w/ Winch
Thanks everyone for the great suggestions & feed back! Certainly has given me a chance to review my expectations.

Lol....high speed off roading does mean different things to different people. I would say most of the 600 miles of off roading I did last year was in the LP of Michigan on forest service roads & ORV trails. Speeds in the 25-50mpg range.

Also while many of the Trails in Michigan are well suited for the Raptor, the size limits other tighter & rougher trails that I'd like to explore in the Midwest & maybe out west. So the smaller foot print is another primary goal.

I know the current steering design means the Jeep will never steer as quickly as the Fords. But the lack of aftermarket suspension parts for the Gen3 Raptor & Braptor (coil over shocks) are a huge draw back to reliability! I also had a coil over go bad & the part was on back order with Ford. So having a vehicle that is so heavily supported by the aftermarket means hopefully little or no down time.

Additionally, my Gen3 has been plagued with problems in shop 45+ days in 18 months of ownership. I've driven a used Braptor that had the engine replaced at 3,500 mls, read of at least one other & multiple cam phaser issues.
Yep the Braptor fills a lot of my boxes, but in light of the recent price increases, high ADM's, & my lack of confidence in the reliability, I would rather pay as much to get a 392 plus the mods.

Plus the 392 is a 392!

Rides better on 35's, keeps the 37's in newer condition, better wet pavement traction, quieter, etc. But thanks!

I don't think many of us think Michigan forest roads when we think Raptor. That changes things a great deal. Order the 392, you seem to be enthused about it and with good reason. I would not hit the dunes with it at 65mph.

There is not going to be much difference between 35 and 37 on the 392 ride and drive wise. Would be a waste of time and money to me to have both.

Please splane it Lucy lol? ?
Some jeep owners proudly believe that having a jeep means dealing with break downs and unreliable vehicles like in the 80s, 90s, and early 00s.

I’d guess you would be happy with a 392 and 2.5” Fox shocks tuned by Accutune. I have Ford Raptor Gen 1 shocks on my Jeep, and it’ll run circles around “regular” Jeep’s! So yes, with custom tuned shocks you can get close enough to a BRaptor to put a smile on your face! You could also get some real bypass shocks from Phil, at Liberty Mountain Fab in Nevada. He’s the one that’s been tuning Lite Brights shocks.

I want pics, and details of the BRaptor, and the issues. "If no pics, it must not exist".

I came here to learn & get schooled, just explaining why I'm here because of my frustration with Ford, yep Ford guys also like to rag on the FCA quality reputation, but from the folks I have met over the last year that drive newer Jeeps & TRX's, people love them & seem to have little or no problems. I also haven't seen many problems posted in the 392 forums, but I'll take a closer look.

Post up or you own a Prius right! About 3 weeks after putting a deposit on the Braptor my sales rep called to say they took a Braptor in on trade, would we like to drive it? So we drove it & I asked why it was traded at only 3,500mls, sales rep said the engine had to be replaced, so the owner traded it in for a new F150 Raptor. The sales rep & manager have been great for the 2 Raptors I've purchased so figured he was being straight up since I already had a deposit on a new Braptor.

The guy posted part of work order as proof. Also have read of another engine failure & cam phaser issues on a couple of the FB Braptor pages.

Some of my posts from FRF with plenty of pics of my Gen3

I just read what you wrote, and we have some things in common on needs and wants.

If you have any spare cash laying around, after you drop coin on the 392 purchase, then I suggest you do the following, to help increase your speed over the rougher, head tossing spots.

Upgraded steering stabilizer/drag link/tie rod, trio, reservoir shocks, and a Long Arm suspension lift, or at the very least, if staying mid-arm, then do relocation lower control arm brackets front and rear.

That, in conjunction with the glooooriiuuuus 392, should put a smile on your face for a good while. ; )

As with all manufacturers jeeps aren't immune to breaking down, but the whole "it's a jeep thing" is highly over played with the current gen jl and JT. Sure you can get a lemon but the current gen jeeps are not the jeeps of yesteryear nor are they first model year teething problems.

I know a lot of Jeep owners like to crawl dirt roads, I am not one of those. Will the JL be as good as a raptor at high speeds even with a major suspension upgrade? Not unless you go long arms and 3” bypass shocks, at that point you could definitely take them on the smoother sections thanks to the power of the 392. I’ve had our 2019 JLUR on 38’s, 3.5” lift, and basic fox 2.0s up to 90mph in the dirt (obviously smooth sections of sand wash). I wouldn’t hit the whoops at half that speed though. Even our 2022 XR on bilstien 5100s and stock 35s has seen 80mph in the desert. The solid axle isn’t as good as an equally built ifs at speed, but utra4 cars have proven that running across Johnson valley at 100mph+ is still doable in a solid axle rig.

Thank you! Do long arm kits usually start at 3.5" of lift and up? Any shock recommendations, Fox, Falcon, King?
