I have a 2021 Sport S, and was thinking about replacing the shocks. I have 30K miles, and do not do any off roading other than an occasional dirt road. Are the Rancho 5000 shocks an upgrade compared to stock? Can anyone comment on ride difference? I know ride is all subjective, but are they more or less firm than stock?

Yes, they are an improvement. They will be slightly more firm than Rubicon shocks and even more than Sport or Sahara shocks. I've not found them to be harsh though. The firmness is more like better controlled rebound vs the squishy bounciness of the stock shocks. They will last much longer than the stock shocks too.

I swapped out my factory (soft) sport shocks with Rubicon shocks, I'm very happy with them. I had Rancho shocks on my TJ, I really like them too. I don't know exactly what type of ride you want but I think Rancho is a good choice.

I'm often occupied, by many things, often at the same time
I had Ranchos on another vehicle and thought they were stiff, more than firm. I did not like them; however, they were bulletproof, litterally <sp>. Ok, not litterally <sp>, but they were indestructiblish. I have not had them on a JL/U/R.

They do not last longer than stock shocks, as stated above. Shocks, all shocks, are a wear item and should be rebuilt or replaced. Non-rebuildable shocks should be replaced (approximately) every 50,000 miles. Rebuildable shocks should be rebuilt more often, maybe every 15,000 - 35,000 miles depending on how hard you run them.

I have had 5000 and 5000x which were fine. Just put the newer Rancho RS7MT shocks on wife's 2dr JL. They ride good and don't seem overly harsh. I have Bilstein 5100 on my Gladiator, they are much stiffer than the Ranchos.

Do you like the RS7MT better than the 5000X? How would you compare the two?

Not a fan of rebuildable shocks for daily drivers. They are great for fine tuning a suspension for a specific need. But, pulling them off, rebuilding or sending them out for rebuild, is a pain. If you don't have the tools, or skill to rebuild them yourself they have to be taken or shipped somewhere. That could mean several weeks down time and an even greater expense. The idea sounds good, rebuildable, but the reality is that they are not as practical. Ideally, you would have 2 sets. One on the vehicle and the other rebuilt waiting to be installed. Two sets also make custom valving/tuning a lot easier.

So far I like them better, seem to be more compliant . I believe it's a more modern shock. I think they were worth the money. I haven't had them long enough to know if they last . But overall I'm happy so far.

Good to know thanks for the input. Did you put boots on yours?

I went with the Ranchos 9000XL adjustable shocks. I set them on setting 4 from the softest setting and they ride great, Better handling, better rebound and eliminates that harsh ride. Best bang for the buck!

Are your comments comparing the 9000XL to stock or the Rancho 5000?

I am a firm Rancho guy, they have been on all of my Jeeps since 2003 and I have owned 5 Rubicons since and I also put them on my SuperDuty trucks of which I have owned 6.

I do the Rancho 5000 and the RS 9000 XL shocks and I have never had and issue with them.

Hit them with some white spray paint before you install them....mine are rusty after being installed for a year. I geuss that is typical for Ranchos from what I read after I installed mine.

I think they were an improvement in ride quality over the stock shocks on my Sport S
