Does anyone ( or dealers) you know of a way to track rail transportation? My daughter purchased a 2022 WRANGLER UNLIMITED SPORT S 4X4.

Only information from dealer was stating it awaits getting on rail car in Toledo. Build sheet/VIN are complete.

Are dealerships still using Rubicon VLS for tracking? Thanks for any help.

The VIN is 1C4HJXDN3NW165124

That's a really good question. I'm not sure what Rubicon VLS is but back in 2006 the dealer I ordered from was able to tell me the exact railcar my Jeep was loaded on, and we were able to track it across the country. It was a small town dealership and the guy didn't have a lot to do, so he was as much invested in the build/tracking procedure as I was. Fun times.

Today, Brand X down the street can also locate which vehicle is on which railcar, though with them you have to track the car through CSX.

I called Stellantis Customer Care this morning - and they confirmed the vehicle was in KZ status, but not scheduled for transit. I expressed a concern of the Jeep waiting for shipment for a long period of time in Toledo - and Stellantis told me they would try expediting the shipment and that a brand mentor (representative) would call me in one to two days with further information. My dealership has been of no help in determining why the Jeep has not shipped. Dealership told me initially the vehicle was scheduled to be shipped on March 7th.

there’s several of us who’ve been in KZS status for 1-3 months with no update. I’ve been waiting for shipment for 2 months. No help from Jeep despite escalating.

If there’s any interest...I can attach some photos my fleet guy sent me of the rail shipping process for my 2022 RAM 5500 that I ordered September 18, 2021....

I imagine it would be somewhat similar for any FCA vehicle that hitches part of their ride by rail.

I would be interested in that very much - thanks

Yes, please do. That would be very helpful as there's very little info on rail shipments and this would be the best place for it. Thanks!

@JeepCares - How about checking into this and letting purchaser's find a better way for tracking via rail delivery after production? Why are there such lengthy delays? Certainly the 2022 Wrangler's are in demand so it shouldn't be from the lack of filling rail cars.

It does not make sound economic sense to have no direct way for tracking from order genesis to final delivery.

FCA has that information; disseminating it is another issue

I can't think of any reason that would keep them from shipping finished vehicles unless they cannot get enough trucks, drivers, trains, or something like that. Having them sit uncovered could subject them to hail, winds or debris damage. Makes no sense to just let them sit.

Weather damage awaiting rail shipment is one of my main concerns.

My F-350 was savaged by a hailstorm in Louisville about 24 hours after it was built. It sucked, but unlike what we are all going through with FCA and their delays, my dealer was constantly updated by Ford what the status was.

Lol I’m sorry to tell you but once the Jeep gets on the train there is no tracking until it hits your local rail yard. The rail companies lose or misplace rail cars constantly. They stage them on spurs in the middle of nowhere or rail yards for another train to eventually get the cars to move further down the line in the direction that car needs to go. My bosses regularly call me when I deliver my loads to customers and tell me to get my tanker cleaned and head to a chemical plant for a base product. The manufacturer I deliver for runs out of base chemicals all the time because their large rail tank load is “in transit” and no one knows where it is. So I have to bring a small load in to get the manufacture by and making their products while waiting on the huge tank car.

So if they misplace a tank car of hazardous chemicals they sure ain’t worried about a rail car of vehicles.

I hate being the bearer of bad news. Just passing along the reality of rail delivery.
