Had the premium soft top down on the interstate, and I swear it was a lot quieter than with the top closed. I could hear the radio at a reasonable level while having normal conversations with front/back seat passengers.
Anyone else?
Maybe the top when fully folded back doesn't trap the road noise. Running Nitto A/T recon grapplers.

My kids once had an hour+ phone conversation via the built-in mic & speakers @ 55mph+ in a topless Jeep. The person on the other end of the call was easy to hear and seemed to hear us perfectly fine, too
I think it's usually okay with the top on, too, but I was very impressed by that particular call

odd. mine is pretty quiet with the top up and closed.
it is definitely quieter all the way down then with just the front flipped back.

On the old TJ the ragtop was VERY noisy-a LOT quieter with it off.

same here. top down, or in safari mode, all year just because it's so much quieter on the road. and with the 4xe on suburban roads it is so peaceful to drive. only reason the top is up is the summer heat and the sun is a bit overwhelming.

No. It's not even close, mate. Mine is quieter with the [standard] top up/closed, always. That's not to say that it's a rock concert when the top is fully lowered, but the collateral wind noise is always present.
