I have a 2021 4xe Rubicon with a build date prior to 6/8/2021 (old style TPMS). Looking to replace my original OEM wheels/tires. Considering buying used OEM take-offs from a 2023 Rubicon (new frequency TPMS).

Questions:

1. Am I correct that If I want TPMS functionality of the new wheels/tires in my 2021 Jeep, and I want a working set of wheels/tires to sell, I will need to pay a tire shop to dismount both sets of 5 wheels/tires, swap TPMS sensors, and then re-mount both sets?

2. What range of pricing should I expect for that labor on 10 wheels/tires? Just wondering if I’d be better off just paying for new sensors - then I could skip the labor on the dismount/remount on 5 wheels/tires - and I could sell a slightly used set of 2023 TPMS sensors.

3. Once reinstalled, I assume there’s a user setting to tell the Jeep which sensor is in which location (RR, RL, FR, FL)?

Thanks!

If you have the means to break the bead you can swap them yourself. They sync up on their own just by driving around. New oem sensors are not that much like $168 for 5. From moparonlineparts

I buy them online. I've used these guys at least one or two times. Don't forget to use NEW valve stems. Re-using valve stems is a bad idea. Schrader is a major manufacturer of TPMS sensors and OEM supplier to various vehicle makers. I recommend you buy Schrader. TPMS.com - Leading Supplier of Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems

I would expect the labor would be $200-300 to breakdown 10 tires. Too much work and logistics.

If you just air them down and break the bead on the valve stem side, you won’t have to rebalance them.

Doesn't look like DT is up in your area, but I'd call a tire shop and ask.

For comparison, when I bought my first set, I had DT pull the TPMS out of the stockers for me, they did that complementary with my new tire mounting cost. They're rate for install/balance is $24/tire, so I'd think $120 would be a reasonable estimate.

I installed some Apex Rapid Deflators earlier this year. I broke the beads with a jack (mine is a ARB style hydraulic, but a HiLift works too), reached in and removed and replaced the stems/TPMS sensors. It was a lot of work wrestling tires (37s) for an old guy (68). Easiest way ended up using tire irons to pry the inside bead over the rim and setting the wheel on a bucket so the tire would drop down to reach the back of the stems.

These are the new TPMS sensors from Continental - good from sometime in 2021 until now.

If you have the right sensors, new combinations will sync up while you drive around. Generally, in less than 5 miles.

My tire guy put sensors on a set of wheels and tires I bought for $10 per wheel. The tire did not have to be removed, he just used his tire machine to push one side of the tire over enough to stick his hand in and change the sensor.

I have had no luck selling used TPMS sensos.

When I sell wheels/tires, I just leave the sensors in place and buy new for the new wheels and tires to start them off fresh.

1. Yes they are not cross compatible so they need to be swapped or replaced.
2. If a shop is good they can push the bead back with their machine to swap them. $25 a tire is the going rate to install TPMS.
3. Yes all Stellaris vehicles are auto relearn. Just drive.

Cheers.

You have those flip flopped. The gray ones are Schrader and older than 6/21. The black ones are Conti's and they are the newer version 6/21 and newer.

I recently grabbed some More Sensors from Amazon (KX5033). They're pre programmed, come with a 5 year warranty, and 5 cost me under 100 bucks.
