My JK has same problem in cold wet snow but the opening are a different size than the JL so the plugs won't fit. Cut the aluminum socket wrench holder in half and taped it down. Now works. A couple of the plugs on my JL pop up a little. Need to adjust them somehow.
@Kraty1 are you really driving down the road at 70 mph during snow/ice storm like you said?

The windshield issues I have occur at highway speeds in periods of snow. They never occur on bluebird days as I'm slowly driving through some fresh snow.
So, this would be the 10% of conditions you mentioned earlier? Do you know what those conditions are such as temp/humidity/precipitation/etc? I'd be curious to poll the JL owners in the midwest who had the -50 F temps, the areas where they were doing the "boiling water challenge" (where boiling water thrown into the air froze mid-air). What was their experience and why haven't we heard from more folks?

Good question. We should all keep track of the conditions when the problem happens. The problem did not arise when it was -50F this past week but then again, on days like that, it's usually a clear sky with no precipitation.

@Kraty1

Seek your happy ending :giggle: somewhere other then this dealership service appt. today.

My prediction is... Your dealership Service Department is going to tell you your JL is working as designed... and there is nada they can do for your JL in regard to same.

.

I have had several calls with them and hereā€™s where it stands:

- Steering issue/death wobble fixed
- Rear defrost was broken (had no idea), ordered new glass to be repaired.
- Front defrost functions as described, same as all other JLā€™s in their lot (both customer vehicles and for sale vehicles), seems like an engineering issue, service has scheduled call with FCA to discuss resolution.

So we continue to wait...

Well this is to be continued... service manager agrees itā€™s a strange set up and potential engineering flaw, but thereā€™s no solution, yet.

FCA says:

ā€œfrom what they stated the steering concern was resolved and the "air issue" he (service manager) stated was duplicated with other vehicles on the lot so he is stated it is a characteristic of the design.

Its something that engineers and corporate would take into consideration when seeing cases like these and claims from the dealer but currently if there is not estimated fix i wouldnt know when to advise of one. in the future the dealerships would have access to a TSB technical service bulletin if corporate finds resolution to issues they put on of those out.ā€

Got my ride back. So now I wait. Steering is fixed though, which is good!

I just had my first service today, specifically to address the front defrost issue. I was told by the service manager that they all are that way and the resolution was "Defrost operates as designed". I've experienced the same issues as others here, with the entire lower left and right corner freezing solid. The ice builds up both inside and outside, eventually causing the windshield wiper to run up on the ridge formed on the left side and the frost blocking a large portion of my vision. I'm ordering some plugs as a stopgap solution but this is a serious safety hazard that needs to be addressed. I'm filing a complaint with the NHTSA and want to cc copies to Jeep corporate. Has anybody had any luck with corporate and if so who? Next step is dropping tips to all the automotive websites about a new Wrangler manufacturing defect and how it's such a basic design flaw that should have been caught in testing. They'll just eat it up. Everyone should complain loud and long until this is fixed with a TSB.

He told me that he's going to greatly reduce his work on YouTube for personal reasons. I noticed that he's already slowing way down on content that he puts out.

This thread has me curious. I'm going to go outside and check mine this afternoon.
Jeep informant has been warned by FCA to stop commenting on issues with the JL as he is an employee of the company

I find it a little concerning that JEEP engineers could not design an HVAC system that completely defrosts the windshield. The JL windshield has got to be one of the smallest installed on a regular production vehicle. I remember after a few years, the JK HVAC was completely redesigned after the JK Introcduced in 2007. maybe the same will occur with the JL In a few years?

I heard that rumor after the fact, but dealerships are independent from FCA, so I don't see how FCA could threaten him with legal action. There are lots of guys who are dealership employees who are doing stuff on YouTube while on the clock.
