I tested mine out this morning and noticed that the middle cleared last for me, even noticing that air only came out of the middle as shown by OP... luckily I’m in Texas and won’t have to worry significantly about snow build up!

But they made it easier to fold down when it’s fogged or iced, so no problem :giggle:
Yeah, but you still have to exit the vehicle to remove the frozen wipers, then remove four bolts. Too much trouble. Wish the wipers automatically folded and replace the bolts with quick release levers, put on your ski goggles and you are ready to roll!

“Middle cleared last”. You mean the sides cleared first with only air coming out the middle? Not understanding.

That’s what it seems. Air strictly came out of the middle of the vents, but both sides cleared up before the middle of the windshield... doesn’t make sense to me, but pics say it all.

Maybe the Jeep design engineers are smarter than we think.

Guess we have to wait for more real world experience from others.

Can you confirm how the design is supposed to work ,Mine has air coming from only the center vent and this has been a huge issue already with defrosting the windshield in humid or foggy conditions .I am in the northeast and we will be getting 30 degree weather starting this week . I had my Jeep in for service as the EGR valve was defective and they " looked at it " compared it to other Jeeps on the lot and determined it works as designed and nothing was wrong . I have a hard time believing that the design is for air to only come from the center vent .

Advice ?

Jamie
Hi Jamie,
Unfortunately, I am unable to determine how this design operates since I am not a trained technician. For this reason, we are suggesting that customers have their dealers be made aware of this while also sending us a private message so we can gather more information on the involved vehicles and have a case opened up for them.

I also am experiencing this defrosting pattern. Has anyone else? I am scheduled for first maintenance visit this coming Tuesday and will ask about it then.

This could be a real safety concern. I would file a claim with NHTSA. This is a real design defect. No joke!

Eveyone needs to report it to NHTSA.

Again, who was testing the JL for 3 million miles exactly?

How do Jeep engineers get something so simple, to be so bad. Doesn’t give me faith in other systems. Kind of like the recirc damper door design that randomly opens and dumps unregulated/unfiltered outside air directly into the cabin below the glove box. The HVAC engineers really messed up. They should be ashamed. We should give them an award for “Worst HVAC system in a modern vehicle”.

FCA are you reading?

You have the auto temp control? Was this with the defrost or A/C on to dehumidify? Was it set to recirculate or fresh air?

This was set to defrost, which kicks the A/C on . Also this is not fog this is frost ..... nothing on the inside of the windshield .

I assumed it was fog inside the windshield that was not being dehumidified. Frost on the outside is another issue all together. That's a huge problem if blasting the windshield with defrost mode for 15 minutes. That definitely should have melted and cleared up the frost outside. I wonder if you have a blend-door problem? Is the air from the top windshield vents hot? Or do you feel its because the JL only has functional vents in the center and not in front of the driver and passenger areas of the dash?
