Hello all,

I am curious to see what everyone thinks about the follow issue I have. I visited and completed several trails between my two JK jeeps. I order the badges after completing the trails but it was some time before they came in. Then as it always happens, life got busy and I ended up selling my last jeep. Fast forward to now and I have another jeep, do you think the badges belong to the driver who hit the trail or on the jeep that went on the trail. Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this matter.

My wife was absolutely convinced that they should go with the Jeep, so we left them on when we got rid of the last one.

As we started collecting the same badges again she asked why we didn't take the ones we had already earned with us.

In other words: your viewpoint can change over time. I have no idea if I'll be doing the Rubicon Trail again in whatever my next Jeep might be, but these will be going with me from now on.

I think it depends..I have a drawer full including the rubicon and the dusy ershim..I would not feel bad putting those on a jeep if I the jeep I put them on would be able to do those trails...on the otherhand I would not feel right about putting either of those on a stock sport...but when it all come down to it I never put any of mine on the rigs that did the trails so I guess it really does not matter just do with them what you want.

If you are more of a person that enjoys tinkering and think it's all about the equipment, then leave the badges with the Jeep. If you are more of a "do-er", and enjoy the adventure, regardless of the equipment, then the driver gets the badges.
It reminds me of photography. I pride myself in taking decent photos. It irks me a bit when some friends and / or family say, "Nice pic! What kind of camera do you use?" I guarantee that if I switched cameras with most of them, I would still take better photos. It's about the light and composition. Yes, a good camera will help facilitate great photos when it is in capable hands, but the best camera in the world won't help a yahoo take good photos. It's the photographer. With the badges, I say it goes with the driver!
A compromise is to do both. Get a duplicate set of badges. There are after-market companies that make badges, including for some great trails that are not BoH trails. Jeep does not own the rights to any trails.

My $.02.
You use a tool to get that badge. They belong to you and the tool. If the pair are unseparated, display them with pride. If they separate, take them off as the tool did not accomplish it without you. Therefore, they shouldnt go on a new tool as you did not use it to get that badge.

In the end, your badges, your Jeep. Do as you please. 😉

How does the BOH app work if you get a new Jeep?
If it starts over and you can earn new badges when you get a new Jeep then it appears it is the Jeep, if it doesn't allow you to collect another badge, then it is the driver.

I personally feel like a Jeep shouldn't wear a badge for a trail it didn't do even if the driver did. But, I have no issues with a driver displaying them on their wall or something if they completed it.

We'll have to agree to disagree. If I sell my camera and get a new one, my photography portfolio does not go with the camera. The portfolio stays with me, even though those pics were taken with that camera that I sold.
This is the way almost anything in life applies: .... an award winning song played on a certain guitar, a skiing record on a certain pair of skis, a record marathon run on a particular pair of shoes, a NASCAR win with a particular car, a Tour De France win on a particular bicycle, and on and on. ..... The award goes with the human.
Why are Jeeps put in a different category? I have a theory: ... Many of you put a lot of time, hard work, and money into modifying your Jeep, that the Jeep takes on a "life of its own." I don't blame you. Some of those machines are awesome! There is no wrong answer, but call me old fashioned. I'm keeping the badges with the human. like awards with almost all other activities and sports.

I would venture to guess that an experienced off-roader could complete a difficult trail more easily on a stock Jeep than a newbie could in a custom rig on 40s. It's the driver that's most important.

You assume all tools are the same right off the shelf.

Not at all. They are all very different. But can anyone name what brand of skates Micelle Kwan wore when she won the Gold? Very few can. But most people have heard of Michelle Kwan. Many people can recognize the name Dale Earnhardt. Very few outsiode of serious NASCAR fans can name the brand of car he drove, nevermind the engine and modifications. That's quite a human / tool pair, but the award goes to the human, not the car.
As for badges, there is no hard and fast right or wrong answer. Everyone will do it the way he or she wants to. As stated earlier, we'll have to agree to disagree.

Badges belong to the driver. If they remain on the Jeep, and someone else now owns it and keeps them on, showing the badges off and are all like, "oh yeah, this Fordyce trail was easy peasy"........it's stolen valor.

Yes, rather than split the badge, the hooman should hold the half the that belongs to the Jeep. Lol.
To be clear, this only applies to the BOH program.

I believe you have to enter your Jeep info and its modifications. ;)

I can think of one other sport /activity that

Not sure I would go as far as calling it "stolen valor", but I personally wouldn't feel right keeping those badges on if they were earned by another person. Everyone will have to make their own decision.
