@JeepCares my Uconnect in my 2018 JL resets itā€™s self every 3 minutes exactly. It is VERY frustrating.

Hi Jasmine,

I am curious; what exactly is Jeep Cares able to do in a situation like this?

Even after having the radio touch screen unit replaced (a $2000 part), the guide lines in my backup camera still disappear randomly a few times a week and the function buttons at the bottom of the screen randomly become unresponsive.

I actually had to get a lawyer involved in order to have what was obviously a warranty repair done at my dealership (on the malfunction of a different, $400 part). And there seems to be no answer from anyone on the disappearing back up guide line.

What role does Jeep Cares play in all this?

My Uconnect glitches, but fortunately the reset feature of the Tazer JL fixes it. It forgets my phone all the time and sometimes won't leave the Waze screen and the touch screen doesn't work. It has never updated over the air, but I had a manual update at the dealer to get off road pages. It actually worked better before the off-road pages update. It has not updated since. It does this most often if I shut the Jeep off with the phone plugged in. If I restart it with the phone still plugged in, it freezes up like clockwork. Annoying as hell. It does this probably twice a week.

I'll take it in and have it addressed before the warranty is up, which won't be long. I'm already at 30k miles.

From personal experience, Jeep Cares will escalate to Uconnect and get a Uconnect Case Manager to call/email you. They will either arrange to have your Jeep tested at a dealership or have another Jeep with the same issue tested somewhere else ā€¦ because it is more convenient for Uconnect engineers to test. At some point they'll find a fix and will role out that fix sometime later ā€¦ they won't say exactly when or how they'll do this. Not sure why.

This is how it worked with my missing ("--") longitude/latitude and altitude information on the Off Road Pages. The uconnect case manager would not commit to a roll out date ā€¦ but, when a Jeep Cares rep investigated, they said the "notes" they looked at had a roll out date sometime in 2Q this year ā€¦ so, who knows.

I would guess that uconnect engineering has to do a lot of regression testing so the "fix" does not break something else ā€¦ which makes sense. This, along with other "fixes", regression testing is probably very complicated and takes a long time.

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear all of this. If you decide to have your dealer look into this. We would like to have this documented and have a case escalated on your behalf so a Case Specialist can work with your dealer to help find a potential solution.

Getting anything fixed with the infotainment center seems impossible. I've been to 2x different dealerships multiple times for my USB data connection issue with CarPlay & volume control problems and the story is always the same - "nothing we can do if we can't replicate the problem". They blame ME for a bad phone, bad cables, bad software. I made this video over the course of 1 day using 4x different phones & 3x different cables - both dealerships watched it and then said "nothing we can do about it". Ridiculous!

Segment 1: iPhone 11 w/ USB Cable #1 - connect & fail (3:16)
Segment 2 (3:52): iPhone 10 w/ USB Cable #3 - won't connect
Segment 3 (5:18): iPhone 10 w/ USB Cable #3 - won't connect; USB Cable #2 (brand new) - won't connect
Segment 4 (7:49): iPhone 7 w/ USB Cables #2, #3, #1 - won't connect
Segment 5 (13:57): iPhone 8 w/ USB Cable #1 - won't initially connect, connects while moving, intermittent failure (19:49) then total failure (22:12)
Segment 6 (22:51): iPhone 10 w/ USB Cable #2 - connect & intermittent failures (24:20), (24:43), (25:15)

I gave up on the 8.4 and now only use it for the radio and the Off Road pages app.
I gave up on it because the android/apple connection sucks.

I use a mounted 8inch android tablet for navigation, Giai and Google maps

For me is: USB connections (either usb 1 or 2) seem to become unnoticed from time to time by the car radio... I usually keep an ipod connected (original cable) on USB2 port, plus my phone (Samsung s20+, with original usb c cable), and from time to time, they both disappear, cancelling music (but the radio) or other apps as waze. Bluetooth connection keeps working always.

from my situation, i believe there is a hardware problem in the connection between the usb port and the radio... don`t know how they could fix this...

Update on mine....It is working very well lately. I haven't had to reboot and it hasn't frozen up. I don't think it got any kind of update, but rather I'm now thinking it had to do with Android Auto. Either way, I'm pretty happy right now and hopefully I'll stay that way.

With your comment I Realized I hadnt try to reboot my phone, which in the end worked out well... as the both iphone and ipod re-appeared in the system... and everything went back as it should always be.

I agree, it seems to be a connection issue in the radio or the radio itself. One dealership (of many) replaced the USB in the center console & the problem persisted. Another dealership told me the center console isn't used to push data (music) to the radio - it's for charging only (WTF?). The finger has been pointed to bad cables, bad software, bad iOS interoperability, old phone, you name it - everything except replacing the radio or at least checking the connection behind the radio. The problem persists and will likely never be fixed - unless I can find the unicorn dealer that actually cares about Jeep customers.

Used the Giai app today with the U-connect to show up on my big screen on the Jeep. I was on a badge f honor trail (Table Mesa, Road, AZ) which was well out of cell range. I have a satellite receiver that blue-tooth's with my I-phone to provide gps (satellite) mapping anywhere. I had previously inputted the map.....so it was a piece of cake to follow the map on my big Jeep screen and follow our progress. Glad I spend ta few bucks to have this kit.

Which receiver are you using?

Hi Tom, it's not clear to me exactly what you were doing. Did you follow your progress in Gaia on the 8.4 screen using your Iphone connected through CarPlay? If so, what purpose did the satellite receiver play?

Later,
Johnny
