Push button 4WD for the Wrangler

Well yeah. So? What's their point? You and I *earned* our grey hairs.

As others pointed out, you get positive feedback with the lever when the transfer case is and is not engaged.

With a button/switch, as on my Tacoma, you get a blinky lighty if it fails to engage or fails to disengage.

I'll take the real feel. Uh, I mean I want positive engagement system feedback.

Actually I like the two levers in my Commando (one for 2wd-4wd and one for hi-lo xfer case).

The Direct Mechanical Transfer Case lever AND the E Brake lever need to stay. Adding another solenoid for the "convenience" is just catering to the Range Rover crowd, and will price the Wrangler out of the reach of those who would have, (but no longer can afford ) to drive future sales.
By the way, Congress has mandated a slew of Nanny Features in all new passenger vehicles that could be an Extinction Event for the Wrangler.

My only complaint about the transfer case lever is that it is so perfectly positioned that I sometimes find myself grabbing that instead of the shift lever.

We own two Honda CR-Vs. One has an electric parking brake controlled by a toggle switch. The other has a foot pedal that must be pressed to the floor to release the parking brake, when engaged. I can't decide which design I dislike more. The hand lever in my Wrangler was a welcome relief.

Be nice if they made it more aerodynamic as well. Also, 4Lo simply isn't needed for the majority, it would keep costs down to get rid of it.

I like the lever. It’s also a great place for a ball cap so I don’t burn when riding/wheeling topless.
What great engineering: the “multifunctional”lever is a huge hit for my family.

I’ve had plenty of experience with electronic controlled transfer cases that refused to function when the switch is moved. “Service four wheel drive system “ messages in the cluster won’t get you home.

I will take the lever, thank you.

Now just kick the FAD to the curb, along with the unit bearings, and give me back tapered roller bearings and unlocking hubs.
Hell, I’ll even settle for the vacuum operated Ford hubs, if we can’t be bothered to step outside. They fail safe to the engaged mode and STILL get you home in case of a malfunction.

Those of us who take our Wranglers off the beaten path regard reliability as priority #1. I've seen too many occasions where the electrical controls refuse to work. What is so difficult about moving a lever??

I'm not aware of a JL where the lever isn't electronic in concert with mechanical unless some mods were made.

On a regular JL, the electronic FAD is triggered by a 2H->4H shift, and if computers don't also do their thing, no 4WD, even though you're spinning the front driveshaft.

On Selec-Trac transfer cases, I believe the 2H->4 auto->4H movement is purely electronic. A clutch needs to engage. Even though my 392 has no FAD, it still won't drive the front wheels without electronic gizmos.

4H->4L is still mechanical at least...

..and non-fixed roof/windshield, lockers and sway bar disconnect. Just unnecessarily complicated features that could potentially break at some point and ultimately make production costs too high for people that don't use them.
