I wonder if vehicles with proximity entry are more susceptible to being stolen than those without. Since all knew wranglers are push button start but not all wranglers have proximity entry.

I'm going to tell myself I'm right so I can sleep easy at night knowing I did the right thing not ordering proximity entry.

Now we need a post on how to remove power locks from your JL.

Proximity entry for me has been very meh, in the winter it seems like I need to nearly hug my door before it recognises me and unlocks. As far as theft, if there's a will there's a way. This is partially why we pay insurance.

As long as they've made vehicles with locks, thieves have been figuring out how to steal them. Your manual tranny jeep just has a different thief out there working on a solution as we hang out on this forum.

Stick shift = Anti- Millennial Theft device!
My son in 16. What is that? Post millennial? He can drive stick because he has an awesome dad who taught him on a brand new wrangler. :)

SAPD is still looking for the suspects involved in the recent thefts using this technology, but they said a bigger problem is people leaving their key fobs in their car, or worse, leaving the car unlocked.
Quoted from the article - I think this is the bigger issue. While it is possible for thieves to use fancy devices, I know 3 people that have had cars stolen because they left the keys in them. I would love to know the number of cars stolen with the keys in compared to any other method. Heck, I've heard of people picking up hitchhikers and then leaving them in the running car while they run into a store, only to return to their car gone.

Problem with insurance companies is they take risk into account so if something is easier to steal risk goes up along with your rates.

How long until they can hack into a self driving car, give it a destination and have it drive there?
