That's some old-school habits right there.

Press the accelerator before starting if you want to. Or don't. Either way it won't do anything on a JL. The accelerator isn't physically connected to the engine by a cable anymore. It's gas by wire.

It does nothing if they key isn't on. Essentially, the gas pedal is nothing more than a rheostat that sends a signal to the throttle body.

Good? Bad? Or neither?
Should I press gas pedal before starting (cold) engine?
LOL...after decades of driving carbureted CJs, I had this same urge when I stepped into a JL for the first time. I can totally relate!

Three squirts into the ole' double pumper and fire away! (Pull the choke if it's not an auto one.) If that doesn't start it, open the hood, pull the air cleaner apart and stick a pencil in the choke plate to hold it open and turn the key. Miss those days!

No need on any vehicle made from 1986 and on. (Thank God!!)

Oh man, this brought back some old memories. I’m 31, but I remember learning how to drive in my dads old truck and him telling me to pump the pedal a few times.

At least you remember those days... I forgot about that procedure. I do remember how we used to manually adjust the defroster and A/C though... wing windows!

Us tuners from back in the day miss the smooth power delivery of a properly-tuned pump shot. Today's digital on/off port injection is... horrible. If I thought it was technically possible to install a 450 CFM vacuum secondary Holley on my 3.6, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

...I’m 31...
LOL... I've got timing lights older than you...

Perfect size. You'd need to have a custom intake made. I'd be curious about finding one of these engines in the junkyard and doing a conversion. That said, the 3.6 goes flat after 5,000 rpm and gives nothing in terms of power. Great for low torque.
