Good? Bad? Or neither?
Should I press gas pedal before starting (cold) engine?
Yeah. Go ahead. Just be careful you don't flood the engine. :CWL::CWL::CWL::CWL:

Timing light?!! Nahhh, that's for the amateurs! a vacuum gauge and your ear turned to the carb top with one hand on the distributor will get it dead nuts accurate. Ok, maybe a quick run around the block to make sure it's not knocking on acceleration!
Timing Light?! Vacuum Gauge?! Hell I just use a degree wheel and set the points from TDC. Fires first try.

It's funny of all our bikes and cars, only my f150 and the jeep are fuel injected. My project car, and all my bikes (at least 10, I'd have to count) are all carbed. Love carbed engines.

LOL, Just make sure it doesn't backfire through the carb while you have your ear on top of the thing.

Well, I had a '72 Buick that I had to press the gas pedal before starting. It had a basic 350 engine with two-barrel carb. Also had drum brakes that wouldn't allow you to stop if they got too wet. It's really amazing that more people didn't die back in the day LOL. Anyhow, that's why I used 50 years. My good old '72 Buick.

It’s amazing we survived, GTX was a 1 of 500 car with power nothing except to the ground. Still accelerating at ~170mph when the front end would achieve lift off. With the Tires I had on it, and not even Power drum brakes and on public roads. I’m not dead or in jail, “somebody up there likes me” ?

We also didn’t have much distractions aside from the AM radio. We didn’t drive like assholes then for the most part and of course, there weren’t as many cars in any given area causing driver anxiety. No passenger side mirrors also kept you far more alert while driving. Today we have way too many gadgets and theatre sounding systems. Our minds are elsewhere trying to make a buck and then the text comes in which we absolutely have to check and answer since nobody can wait for a response more than 10 seconds.
