I didn't have the issue with the stock pan. Started up after the pan swap. I think it allows too much fluid to the back of the pan. It doesn't keep fluid where it needs to be at an incline. I'd like to fully understand the inside of the transmission. Why does it go to drive 6th gear? Does it have something to do with where it pulls fluid from? Anybody really understand the 8 speed transmission? Please chime in.

Any difference of the interior of the pan, such baffles, shape, etc.?

The stick pan didn’t have anything altered and neither does the PPE pan. I’m running the way they sent it to me.

I wasn't thinking about any alterations you may have done, but rather if there were any differences between the stock pan and the PPE pan - something that may have affected the way the oil level when the Jeep is at an incline.

I think you may be on to something. I hope PPE can give me something to solve the issue.

Watching. I have this pan, but unlikely to do an extreme vertical angle on a trail. Mine pan was the plus 1 quart part number.

Our engineers asked me if you followed the proper fill procedures for the ZF 8 speed transmission. These transmissions must be filled the proper way or it could lead to shifting issues.
If the Jeep has been driven for more than 3000 miles since the fill, and now when I open the fill plug the fluid is at the correct level does it matter what fill procedure was followed?

I wonder if not proper seating the filter has anything to do with it?

I too am having this issue with PPE pan on extreme angles (sand Hollow and Moab climbs). Cannot replicate the situation unless on the slick rock

after first occurrence i added a quart based on feedback. This weekend, same issue. Climbing a ledge and trans kicks out and won’t shift. Had to shut it down to get it out with my family of 4

so greatful I found this thread. I will be going back to stock pan. It’s starving the pump at incline.

I’m already +1qt over capacity. Can PPE tell me how many quarts over I need to be to prevent this?

Just spit balling but is it possible that the PPE filter being larger, and when at a steep incline, the filter is no longer submerged in fluid and begins sucking air from the dry side (front of pan) thus causing fluid starvation?
