Hey everyone so I just ordered my bumpers and am looking to get a good winch. I have had 3 warn winches in my life on other truck and they were great but as we all know there are a lot of other options on the market for much cheaper. I’ve seen so many brands my head hurts. What are some popular and really good brands y’all have had experience with that won’t break the bank?
Thank you

I’m currently on year 4 of my Smittybilt X2O 10k. Aside from needing to change the rope, it’s done fine. I’ve yet to stall it. Still on the original batteries for the wireless remote. I’ve always kept the control cable in the jeep, but have yet needed to plug it in. For a budget casual use winch, it’s a good option. I think I paid $400.

Pretty much everything short of Warn Zeon's are imported.

I've been happy with our Superwinch SX10SR.

I did go look in person at several options. Some of the Smittybilts look pretty good, less impressed with the HF Apex and VR Evos. The HF base badlands looked concerningly cheap.

EDIT: Note, Superwinch went out of business a few years back and was bought and rereleased by Westin. Westin backing the warranty certainly added a level of comfort.

See I’m glad you mentionaed the hf models because I’ve had some people swear by those. But they looked really cheaply made to me as well

Warn M series is still US, or at least partially US, made. Definitely older tech than the Zeons though.

I have had my HF apex with syn rope for almost a year. zero issues. I was hesitant at first but for the price and watching Matts off-road recovery beat these winches on a daily bases i figured id give it a try.

interesting article on WARN winches in relation to being made in the USA. BLUF, For the price, you’re getting as made in America as you can get from a global company.

With that said, I have a smittybilt 10K XRC Gen 3 on order. Well see if the deal pans out as it’s an Ebay seller who has 9 listed as new for $545.00.

The Zeon's are mostly Chinese. The Zeon Platinum, like the 12K-S on my LJR has the most domestic content. The Platinum is the best winch you can buy (excluding the exotics) but it has one significant flaw, it doesn't have a wired remote the the cordless remote is very unreliable. (So I carry two).

I've got 12K SW on my TJR and JLR. They both get lots of use. HF are good for the money, ditto for smitty built. Warn likes to brag about their high overhead. A winch is very simple and was invented decades ago.

Take a look at this post.

I intend to buy the Superwinch SX10SR as well. Seems like the right combination of quality, price, and warranty. There are not a lot of reviews on them online, but the few that are there are positive.

Might consider the 12K SW. Same motor and other parts, just lower gears. You only have about 60-64% the pulling power on the top roll. Lots of good review in this forum and others. I've been happy with my two and they get a lot of use, albeit always with a snatch ring.

So I found a warn 10s for around 800 I think that may be the one I go with. Research says it’s really good and the price isn’t too bad

Will do. Not a huge difference in price so will probably just jump on the 12K. A little slower but that's ok.
