I am new to this forum and stumbled across it by accident when Google-ing "2018 JL Wandering Steering". I have a degree in engineering and understand design, testing, and implementation of a product. We purchased a Jeep Wrangler JL for our son a few weeks ago. We thought of Jeep as a safe die-hard product. I have had Jeeps and never had a problem with them like this. Unfortunately, I never drove the jeep and discovered the steering problem. It was a gift to our son. The first day our son was driving it he reported to us that it was hard to control. I thought that maybe he had not adjusted to the box feel of a Jeep and brushed it off as a low time driver. It is a new car right? Anyways, a few days later when he was trying to get onto a highway he said at the higher speed it started oscillating back and forth in the lane. When a truck went by him he lost control and it spun out and slid all the way across a four lane highway. Miraculously he didn't hit any of the other vehicles nor slam into the dividing wall. When he got home I took the 2018 Wrangler for a ride and was alarmed at the instability of the steering. There is incredible play in the steering and a zone of about 10 degrees where nothing happens when you move the wheel right or left. When I tried driving it at high speeds it literally bounced from side to side in the lane. My son was not kidding. It is work to keep it in the confines of the lane. Anyone behind me probably thought I was impaired. Needless to say, with a few hundred miles on it, we took it back to Jeep. They repaired it (they said). We drove it...problem still there. We brought it back a second time. A third time, now a fourth. It now rests on the lot at the Jeep dealership with no resolution on the horizon.

Jeep knows they have a serious problem but are keeping it tight lipped. I think that is what irritates me the most. Our son could have been killed along with his passengers. Is this another car company waiting until there are several deaths before they do something? I hope not.

Our Jeep has maybe 500 miles on it has been deemed unsafe. Jeep doesn't know what to do other than give everyone their money back. I've written both the CEO of FCA and our local dealership in regards to this issue. I am alarmed at how they released these vehicles, to be sold and driven on US highways, when they clearly did not road test these set ups. I asked the CEO how much is a human life worth? And, how many people have to get hurt or killed before they do something. I've also filed a report with the NTSB/NHS and I hope everyone else affected does too. My biggest concern is not our Jeep - but the thousands of others being sold with this problem unresolved. There is significant risk to life and property.

The power of the pen is great. Let Jeep's CEO know how this company has let us down.

Here is the main steering problem thread that has some successes with fixing the steering problems. You might want to repost your info from above in this thread as well: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...ering-feels-like-it-has-play-and-drifts.3691/

My Jeep is sitting at my dealership service area (day 28 for death wobble) waiting for a stabilizer bar and diagnostics on a steering issue. I lost my steering on an exit ramp. I was driving around 30mph, steering the car to the right on the curve when the vehicle’s front end began heading straight for the guardrail. I was able to stop the Jeep about 3 feet from impact. I turned the wheel sharp right, pressed the gas pedal, and the car kept going towards the guardrail. I had to put the car in park and turn it off. After turning the car back on and putting it in drive, I was able to turn the right but I was so shaken that I drove very slowly the rest of the way home and promptly called my dealership.

Just dropped off my 2018 JLU with 11,000 miles off at the dealership with shimmy at highway speeds. 2week back order on stabilizer, they are installing an aftermarket one until the new one comes in. Seems like a bandaid
