I think it’s cool either way, I love simplicity in my Jeeps, I purchased a sport 2 door with crank windows to build and lots of time I love taking back seat etc out and running it as light as I can. Casey Currie has a few prerunner Jeeps that look like a lot of fun. Where I live it’s all woods but if I lived out west this would be a fun direction to pursue, although my wife like yours I fear would not drive in it with the current “salvage title” vibe haha.

I’m in the same predicament with the stock parts as well, seems a shame to toss them but I fear saving them will just mean I’ll have to toss them when I’m older.

So if you don't know me by now, I like to switch it up. Doing the same thing for too long gets boring. So I like to remove things and then later on I'll add them back on, and then I'll change up some colors. I like to keep it fresh.

Lately I've been getting a hankering to put my tailgate back on. At this rate it's only a matter of time.

While I do enjoy having no tailgate, it makes seeing behind the Wrangler extremely simple. I have a thought as to how I can obtain a similar level of visibility. The question becomes how much do you really need to see behind you to know where your vehicle is?

IMG_20230512_231614660.jpg

Will two holes this size suffice?

Time will tell. My plan is to put a piece of either polycarbonate or another type of transparent plastic sheeting over these holes acting as a window to the past!

I have a couple of projects that I never quite finished on my tailgate. Also this being said, I have a project that I haven't finished on the mesh tailgate netting either. To do the project on the tailgate netting I'm going to need to remove it as well. So in the meantime, I think I'm going to get the plastic covering, put some fancy holes in it so I still have the airflow needed for these vents, and then mess with the mesh tailgate at a later date
Are you cutting view holes into the tailgate?

Tailgates back on. Honestly I remember being a lot more heavy than it was. ?‍♂

Thankfully I keep a lot of the important parts like weather stripping.

IMG_20230514_192738655.jpg

The weather stripping actually closed up the gap from the horse stall mat pretty well.

IMG_20230514_195032631.jpg

It's been a while, so I forgot that the soft top rear window goes down before the tailgate closes. ??

Honestly it looks a little too proper if you ask me. I'm going to have to invest in a big obnoxious sticker for the back window. Any recommendations?
(Definitely going to have to keep it on the non-profane side of things, as much as I'd like to have a big purple cock on my back window, I don't think that would work out too well for me)

IMG_20230514_195051064.jpg

@Jeepeto 31 holes. This one is for a drink holder project I'm going to finish now that the tailgates back on.
Love the build….have you considered these front fenders?…….?

I’ve had trouble getting rid of stock parts as well. I called a local salvage yard and they will take them off my hands without them going to the landfill.

Really was only ordering the 75W-90 differential fluid for the m210 front and m220 rear. But as with Amsoil, that free shipping sure is nice. Been meaning to get some more fuel additives for the wife's Subaru Forester, so got it up $100 got that free shipping.

Screenshot_20230610-082706-680.png

Ordered this guy too, for the rear limited slip.

Probably won't do the procedure until we get back from our vacation near the end of July. Honestly this will be my first ever DIY differential fluid change, so the whole process, even just looking up what I need to use is kind of nerve-wracking.

Did a little bit of research before I put in my order:

Got to love this forum, so such a wealth of information.

Not related to this post, but I wanted to do a shout out to @Rhinebeck01 for having my back yesterday and being concerned for my well-being on this forum. You're a true friend brother! Beers on me if we ever meet in person! ?
@Rhinebeck01 is good people, helped me out a lot when I was learning about the Tazer, and a couple other things, definitely one of the good ones on this board……

First post,
I will be outlining the general mods I've already done and will slowly add more in-depth descriptions of those mods as time proceeds. I will be posting more in depth thoughts on future mods I will be doing, and the processes of getting them done as I complete them.

My Wrangler is a 2021 Willys Sport EcoDiesel. I have manual windows, manual locks, and at the moment no soft top (It's tied up in my garage ;)).

My end goal for my Wrangler is to have a rhino lined black interior, five-point harnesses on four bucket seats, a 4-in lift with at least for the moment maximum 35-in tires. I already have Icon Rebound Pro DOT approved beadlock rims. In the years to come I will redo my exterior paint in a Kevlar coating, I'm still a little undecided on the color I'll choose but will probably stick with a color similar to the Sarge green I already. have. Bushwacker fender flares.

The look I hope to have for my Wrangler will be more along the mainstream look of modded Wranglers. But the process I will take to get there is going to be a winding road of weird stuff coupled with functional mods.

At current this is how my Wrangler sits.

View attachment 695101

Icon Rebound pros sitting on OEM destination MT 32-in tires. Soft top removed. 5 gallon fuel tank holder on driver side fender. Vehicle name "TREDSDERT" vinyl on hood. Aluminum curtain rod painted and placed in spot of front fender flares.

View attachment 695102

"Si Se Puede" mirrored vinyl placed on front window, so that drivers in front can legibly read it in their rearview mirror. Steel rounds screwed into the aluminum hood to allow placement of interchangeable magnetic accessories. Orange "remember to close your hood strap" because I keep forgetting to latch my hood and have dented it in twice. Rough Country tubular front bumper installed. LED headlight upgrade. Trimming and very rough rigging of front fender liners.

View attachment 695103

Custom hood emblem, derived from old steel license plate frame, which I painted gold. Removal of the hood latch to fit a compressor, number one reason why my hood keeps flying up. Dixie Horn jury-rigged in front grill. (This one is so much fun, probably my favorite mod yet)

View attachment 695104

Front Passenger side door is going to become my sticker panel.

View attachment 695105

Tailgate removed. Third brake light relocated to top rear cross pillar on the roll cage. OEM front bumper trimmed and painted (red) and attached in place of the rear bumper. Holiday truck nuts. Halloween skeleton will act as a Jeep toy that I can dress up for holidays. Lots of projects to be had back here.

View attachment 695108

Rear seats and carpets removed. A bunch of bolts were painted gold at some point, though they don't pop as much as I was hoping. Light bar that came with the front bumper was placed back here for lack of a better location, at the moment it doesn't really serve any purpose other than to blind tailgaters (which I don't do because that's illegal ;)) Projects for this spring will involve a rear seat bracket and then two waterproof folding seats with lap belts.

As with all Jeeps, they leak a little, mine leaks a lot, waterproof container screwed to the floor to hold waterproof gear and a small amount of emergency items.

View attachment 695109

Custom made Polycarbonate semi-watertight roof panel, with 5% ceramic tint underneath. This project took me about 5 months of R&D, and about 15 holes drilled in the roll cage. Honestly my favorite mod I've installed, total cost was just under $250. It gives me that freedom feel I want and still a decent level of protection from the elements.

Here's a photo of what it looks like from the inside looking out.

Looking forward to this thread, hope y'all will enjoy it as much as I enjoy putting together these crazy projects.

Those may be true for the normal Dana 44s, but this one is specific to the diesel Dana 44s:
The "normal" D44 axles specify the same--there is nothing unique to the diesel. My point is that Dana states 75W-140 and FCA reduced the viscosity from that in the quest for more MPG.

Just for information...

So y'all probably know at this point that I've been wanting to do a ignition switch, or a fuel pump switch to make my Wrangler even harder to steal. I've even thought about putting a keyed point in the steering column, which as an added bonus would give my keys somewhere to hang so that they're not in my pocket.

While I was poking around on the internet yesterday, I found this guy:

Screenshot_20230611-080506~2.png

It's a 12 volt surface mounted keyed battery kill switch. It made me think about where I could install it?

IMG_20230610_095003451.jpg

I don't know about you guys, but I only ever plug into the media ports to either charge my phone or my wife's phone. Because I have the media ports now, I never used the 12 volt adapter. So what if I removed the backing of the 12 volt adapter, kept the cover on it and turn that into my keyed ignition switch?

I'm not sure if I can replace the cylinder head on the ignition switch, and be able to install a new head on there so that I can slip in my door lock key. However I will be purchasing two of these ignition switches that way I can mutilate one of them and see if maybe I can't just bang out a bigger hole where the key is so that really even a screwdriver could start it but I will have a hidden place that allows me to hide a kill switch and have somewhere to put my keys while I'm driving. I'm not really fan of having my keys in my pocket. I guess I'm just old school enough that I feel like the key should be in the vehicle somehow.

Can't remember if I said it earlier in this post, but I would wire this ignition switch into my starter button. So that it would only get power to to start the vehicle if the switch was turned on. Basically you can step on the brake and press the button all day, shit won't start until you turn that key!
Pop the trim off where start button is. You'll be able to disconnect climate control and push start module. Peel back wire tape and you'll find 4 wires. Red one is the one you want.

1. I actually think this is pretty cool
2. It made me think of you, @Tredsdert (because it's cool, unexpected, and a bit off the wall)
You're actually going to give him more ideas? ?
