I believe in a large enough diameter to not just be a deterrent but a permanent solution!

From the article:

“That’s a lesson a worker at Yellowstone National Park recently learned the hard way by leaving a can of bear spray on the dashboard of his vehicle.”

Obviously with a Jeep there wouldn’t be room to leave it on dash with all the ducks up there. Some place lower, and cooler might work but I’d still prefer to carry a rehoming device like @ShellNate7974 . Even if it doesn’t kill the bear it would feel good knowing I had given it a few holes to remember me by, after it mauled me to death.

Plus, having a deterrent out in the vehicle when you aren’t in it just isn’t terribly helpful. Good intention, bad implementation: 2 out of 5 stars, would not recommend.

In theory it will keep the fluids contained but if it explodes or just leaks, you’re getting some nasty residue on your hands when you reach for your useless can.
I believe most of the manufacturers have a 1 year shelf life recommendation. I guess after you’ve had it a year you could use it for testing purposes only. Like if your neighbor is having a backyard party & the wind is blowing in the right direction…

Would a steel ammo can contain it?

I need to test this one. Here in south Texas (San Antonio) we'll hit 105 occasionally. I need to see what something does in those conditions with the windows rolled up and temps up to 125 inside the vehicle. If I don't report back, well, you'll know why...🤣🤣🤣

Any type of pepper or defense spray that is old should be tested or just retired & replaced periodically. You don’t want it to explode or leak!
I keep it inside at room temperature. From what I've read and seen, it's fine.

Jeep Wrangler JL Pepper spray kept in Jeep. 1775004710127-nr

That’s great, I, however do not like entrusting the protection of my life & my family to an item that can weaken with age & I have to take the manufacturer’s word for it’s effectiveness.

We’ve kept a personal sized Sabre pepper gel in a tray inside our center console for years. It’s stayed there through 112 degree days in the summer. Never any issues, but we replace them shortly after expiration. We do have the OEM Jeep headliners and use a windshield sunshade.

We only pack our bear sprays when we load up camping gear in areas known to have bears. No issues with those, but we don’t camp when it’s super hot out.

HST2 Works great or hard cast lead. 😁
We have more .45 caliber Golden Sabre +P pepper balls than I’m comfortable putting through an expensive “Baer sprayer” not officially rated for them. May need to get a cheaper one to use them all up, as we’ve also switched to the HST flavored ones that grow prettier flowers. 🙄

The problem with God’s Caliber is it sort of stops working when you cross certain lines on a map. While we’re fortunate to have been able to move, we still have to go back on occasion. We also like having options should we ever have to handle any overly-enthusiastic neighborhood pets that might be allergic to flowers. 🤣

Anybody every have issues with having a can of pepper/bear spray left in the Jeep?
I don't mind leaving in, I just don't want it to blow up. That may suck a bit.

Although I could rub my hard boiled eggs on the roof while driving to work.
A couple drops in some otherwise bland chili works too. 😁

You‘re going to want several projectiles in flight well north of 45 cal. Slightly north of 70 cal. A batch of Federal Power-Shock rifled hollow point 12 gauge 438 grain slugs moving at 1610 fps. Otherwise practice running and shooting a handgun back over your shoulder. Mostly kidding.
