2023 JLU Rubicon 4xe, fairly loaded but no ACC, FCW and so on.
Park sense warnings in cluster, dash button flashes then indicates PS disabled.
But only sometimes, and only since a tire cover..........

Got my wife her Rudolph tire cover - installed it and that went fine, just like any other, centered it, perfect fit, not loose, not tight and the big hole in the middle lines up fine with reverse camera.
I wish the camera hole was a tad different because you can just see the lower part of the cover's hole in the backup cam view but it doesn't really obstruct anything at all.

The first trip out with it since the tire cover went on, the park sense button started flashing and she got a message park sense disabled, clean sensors.
They are clean - the thing was washed not long ago and hasn't really seen dirt to speak off, rear bumper is very clean. There's nothing on the bumper or the bumper sensors.

After the first stop, when we started out again, park sense worked perfectly, exactly like normal.
Then another stop for a few minutes, took off again - button flashed, error message on cluster park sense disabled etc etc.
Checked again - the bumper is totally clear.

My question - is the JLU park sense sensor array ONLY in the bumper? Is it only sensors there and no place else?
If that is the case, then it's a park sense sensor issue.

Does that backup camera have anything at all to do with park sense? (can't really see how - it doesn't matter on the JT with park sense)

Has anyone else seen this after installing a silly tire cover?

Total coincidence??

I had thought about cutting a piece of plastic to slip behind the camera bit to hold the cover back (or forward) from the camera view as an experiment but I can't see how the camera matters.

Admission - full disclosure - I've never even had the spare tire off her Jeep - never had that camera bit, never even unlocked that lock thing below the camera lens so I'm at 0 (zero) knowledge on the Wrangler backup cam. I've normally dealt with the JT or the WK2 and so on.

Not a silly question of course. It's possible the added profile of tire cover makes the sensors think it's partially blocked.

I could be wrong, but I think ParkSense also utilizes the blind spot sensors in the tail lights, too.

I had wondered about that, but what about 1 or 2 sizes larger tire with no cover?
I had thought - then considered those who move to say a 34" tire and keep a matching spare.

It's just the sensors, not the backup cam. My camera is disconnected right now because I just installed a new bumper with tire carrier. I also had to remove the sensors and put them in the new bumper. I'll bet the tire cover is being detected.

The cover is snug, making the stock spare about the size of a tire just 1 step larger.

The BSM of he tail lights is o the outer side of the tail lights (pretty much like a JT)

I checked and there's nothing at all hanging down or out from the cover. Should not be any larger than the next size up in tire sizes.
That's why all I could think of was the camera - but the camera can be blocked with mud or ice on my JT and park sense still works even when you can't see out the camera.

Silly question: Does the problem go away if you take off the cover?
Not silly, but it's weird because my wife said it worked just fine on her 3 trips today.
1 from home to a friend's house for quilting get-together
1 from there to a grocery store
1 from grocery store to home
I just asked and she said - no errors or issues and it beeped at her as she was backing into the garage (she was a bit close on one side)
So weirdly, it worked fine today!

Well, will see what everyone here says as ideas, but for now - I'll wait until is beeps at her again and disables park sense.

I think this is a case of "Correlation does not imply causation".
That is to say I don't think the tire cover is the problem but it's just a coincidence that park sense is failing about the same time you put the cover on.

There are threads in the forum of folks upsizing tires and finding issues with park sense.
Seems like eliminating the cover for a few days would help rule it out at least.

Yes and I believe it does take information from the rear cam also into its equation.

If the camera is providing input, I wonder if the tire cover may be moving enough to make the camera think it is seeing things?

I have a cover on my spare, but the camera cover gets installed after the tire cover is in place. The cover can't "flutter" because it is held securely in the center.

Possibly if in fact Jeep did utilize data input from the camera. I can’t specifically remember what tech story I read that from a few years back.

I have a spare tire cover no issues

I think the sensors are just kinda finicky. I have a similar problem - been running the same 33" KO2 take-offs for over a year. Did a 5-tire rotation about a month ago, and ever since, I get a warning when in reverse. Dash indicator shows it's on the left side (both the far left and the next indicator over are flashing).

I didn't make any changes to the bumper whatsoever - just rotated the tires. Have cleaned the sensors, camera lens, etc. No dice. If I remove the tire, it goes away (but obviously that's not a solution).

I'm about due for another rotation in a couple of weeks - interested to see if it goes away then.
