This is not true!!! A car maker cannot force you to use a dealership or any other entity to keep your warranty valid. Just make sure that you keep your receipts of the supplies for your oil change, and have them organized just in case. It is illegal for them to require something like this.
They can if it's their own private dealership warranty. This is not an FCA or Jeep warranty, it sounds like one provided by the dealer themselves. They can require whatever they want. They also require you to have the vehicle inspected by them at least once a year too.

This warranty is probably not worth the paper it's printed on either, but that's just my cynical view.

ASE mechanic for oil changes, that’s funny. Even the dealers don’t use their ASE techs for that.

Most of them use lot boys to do oil changes I think :)

I had a brand new 1999 Mustang GT, dealer gave me "free" oil changes. I decided to take it and let them do it. It was taking a while, the service writer came in and told me they had backed my car into a post. JFC. That was the first and last time I let them change my oil.

I added the VIN to the top of the "maintenance sheet", plus space for who, what, when, where, why, etc. Then made 50 copies.

AND I cut out the Proof of Purchase (barcodes) off each bottle and filter box, parts label, etc. and tape them to the maintenance sheet.
I do similarly with the packaging.

A few pics from my 2018 RAM 4500....

I’ve never let the dealer change my oil. I’ve probably bought around 15 new vehicles and never had an engine issue. For the most part, unless there were certain circumstances, I changed the oil myself and I still do. Free isn’t worth it. Even of they paid me I would ā€˜t take it to the dealer.

I always write the date, miles on the oil and air filters with a Sharpie.

I keep receipts in an envelope. I also store individual oil analysis reports (for each DIY oil change, which I've done from new) in my Jeep binder. There's even a few relevant photos stored on a JLU-specific thumb drive.

Finally, every time a wrench in my hand touches the vehicle, for any reason, I make a date/mileage/reason/cost entry on an Excel spreadsheet.

If the dealer ever asks for paperwork to support a warranty claim, they'll have all they can handle from me.

I was a technical writer/analyst in a previous life, so all of the foregoing comes naturally to me. :)
What?? I'd read through the details of your warranty. That can't possibly be correct, unless it's not the usual Mopar warranty that everyone else buys.

Also, I'm pretty sure your dealership likely isn't paying a certified mechanic to change your oil, and instead has Jimbob do that between car washes and sweeping the lot, while the tech initializes that it was done.
I've got the factory lifetime warranty on my 2018 and there is no such clause. Same on my 08 that has a factory lifetime powertrain warranty. It's either an aftermarket warranty or the dealership is full of shit and trying to make a buck.

Warranties play on peoples fear, lack of trust, and biases. Think about it, if your engine explodes and they change it under warranty are you going to keep that Jeep knowing the hacks that they have at some of these dealers? My answer is no, I’d drive it to the first lot to trade it in on something else. If you care for the machine it will last; most of us won’t see the inside of a Jeep dealer unless there is a recall, then again maybe not; my clutch is still recall free.

As @Rjstevens just pointed out, this 'lifetime powertrain warranty' is a "free" dealership-provided perk with that stipulation. They're either betting on the profit from dealership oil changes covering any honored claims, or the unlikelihood of a customer being able to properly document their oil changes, maintenance and inspections to their satisfaction.

If I'm reading this correctly, the oil change only has to be done at an ASE-certified shop, not necessarily by a certified tech (although an ASE-certified tech does have to perform the yearly inspection). Not really an impossible feat, but it definitely cuts out the basic ability to diy for a simple oil change.

With all qualified vehicles that have the Lifetime Powertrain Protection Plan, you must have the oil and filter change performed either at one of our top-notch Service Facilities located in Paris or Georgetown, or have it performed at an ASE-Certified center...

I change my own oil ever since the first 2 free wave changes resulted in 6 quart refills. I save receipts. I wonder if the data is logged in the vehicle computer when the oil change screen is reset. Anyone know If the dealership can do a history lookup?

I’d Rather Talk Jeep’s!
So my last oil change was my last Jeep Wave change. I’m looking to just do my own now, but I’ve always wondered how you all document that for potential warranty stuff. A receipt of the filter/oil?
CarFax Car Care App. Works awesome to keep track of all the repairs/maintenance that potential new owners can see when you decide to sell as well.

That’s the first thought I had. More like someone straight out of high school or a similar skill level.

I video the oil change with two witnesses. I then store the image in the cloud with a digital hash to prove the recording hasn't been tampered with. I then get the two witnesses to sign a statement I have notarized. I keep all the empty oil cans, oil filters, etc in a climate controlled safe.

JK, my 2021 JLR is 9 months old, has 2,700 miles on it, and has had one of four free dealer oil change. Half the milage is in low range wheelin.
