dang: just got a look at the OPs pics and realized that isn’t even a matching JL wheel.

all bets are off until the OP is starting with the correct wheel.

I’m going to try this again because I think I haven’t made my problem clear. I know I’m not the first Wrangler owner to have this problem. Here goes: I put 35’s on my 2021 Wrangler and wanted an oversized spare. I purchased a LT315/70R/17 on a stock Jeep 17” inch wheel. it will not fit. I’ve installed a RC adapter to lift the brake light another 2”. still no luck. The studs simply will not extend enough to get a lug nut on them. I’ve talked with two guys at mechanic/tires stores and a man at Autozone. No one knows. Any help?
When I had my jk I had 1-1/2" spaces because I liked the stock wheels I had. I used an extra spacer to mount my spare

Put two 1/2” grade 8 washers on each of the 3 lugs on the spare tire mount. You can even stack 3 of them and still have more than enough threads on the lug to secure the spare tire.

I hve come to the conclusion that the center hole of spare wheel of a JL spare is larger than previous (no backup camera) Wranglers.

@azwjowner is correct, the centerbore on the wheel you have will not clear the camera.
Once you get the correct JL wheel, you will probably need to extend the rubber bumpstops a little. The adapter you have is decent and is one of the few things I would buy from RC.

Did they change something from 21 to 23??? I have a 21 Willy’s with 35’s on stock carrier and factory 3rd light in factory location
You have a 35 on the stock carrier! I was under the impression you had to buy the reinforced carrier to handle that extra weight. Did you have to use a relocation bracket to move the tire up and out a bit? How long have you had this set up? I'm planning on going to 35s and if i dont have to get a new carrier thats great.

No I did not have to get a new carrier. I did purchase the rough country relocation to move to tire up some to clear the bumper. I have had this setup for a little over 4 years now. Just did the same setup on my wife’s 22 JL.

Define “extra weight” , according to TF with an Alpha you’re good to 100 lbs without reinforcement. My stock Beadlock Capable and 33 KO2’s was 82 lbs, the optional Falken MT’s were about 10 lbs heavier. I got 35/12.50/C Toyo AT3’s lighter than the Heavy 285/70 Falkens, and only 8 lbs heavier than the 285/70 KO2’s. No reinforcement needed.
However - if relocation is needed beware of the cheap steel relocation like RC that weighs ~ 13-15 lbs. I didn’t realize until too late to return that it would put me into relocation weight and bought the featherweight TF aluminum brackets (2” up- 1 3/8” out and a gate tire bumper spacer kit was included) Also wasted money , I now have an Alpha to eliminate camera sensor issues after 8.5” -1mm wheels.
It’s inconsistent if 35’s fit the carrier. Plastic bumper typically will, steel Iffy, some fit, some fit but rub, some like mine don’t fit. (Rubi carrier)

What was the issue with the TF aluminum brackets?

You went with the TF Alpha HD Adjustable Spare Tire Mounting Kit? I read, per Teraflex, the tailgate reinforcement is required to run above a 35” tire.
The other issue i read about was that the camera picks up the wheels in the sunlight and sensors think someone is behind the jeep. You experience any of those issues?

The aluminum brackets served well until 8.5” -1mm wheels that stuck way out when added to the bracket’s 1 3/8” out. The adjustable brought the tire back to the stock tailgate bumpers and it’s camera sticks out a little further eliminating camera sensor issues. TF specs the carrier good for up to 100 lbs, without reinforcement.
My combo was 90 lbs with the stock wheel & light 35’s now 80 lbs with the new lighter wheels, keeping it under 100 lbs with 37’s won’t be difficult. But to my knowledge I would have been limited to the KO2 and the upcoming KO3/C 37’s with the 31 lb stock beadlock capable wheels without reinforcement recommended. (they were 7.5” anyway)

I see, the key is the weight. That alpha adjustable looks HD and the quick detach 3rd light is a great idea. Appreciate your time and all the great information.
