Venting the hood is “cool” in the winter. On my 3.6 that I traded, on winter drives, at a stop it would look like man hole covers in cold cities. People would point as steam would come out. In the summer it has that mirage look as heat escapes. Make the cars in front wavy! As you look thru the hot air.
What your are saying is true. Put my goal was lowing coolant and oil temps.
Driving the jeep around with the hood unlatched did nothing to lower the coolant and oil temps.
Adding the RPM Extreme JL fan controller lowered my temps by 25 to 35 degrees and the added benefit is hot air coming out of every possible opening in the engine compartment
I could add hood vents put at this point in my case I don't see any benefits

Totally agree, fan is the only solution. I did everything else first. Then hp tuner update to fan settings.

I have the 2.0 engine. When it hits 224F, the fan turns on-sounds like a damn hurricane-hence the engine name-and it knocks the temp to 215F in seconds. Just joking on the hurricane name, but the fan sure is loud

THIS^^^

Unintended consequences. One, most serious in my mind, automatically void whatever powertrain warranty on the engine, this would be a no brainer for dealers to deny any work.

Second, less consequential, the above noted computer not working with the fan. I don't for a second think the computer tries to run the engine at 230, more like 210-225. But, having the fan on below full operating temp, trying to game the heat load, is just injecting other problems, efficiency, emissions, others.

Look, I think the motor running 210 is perfect, but I also don't think the motor hitting 230 is a need to try and change the program. Monitor the temp? Yep, maybe take a few rpm off the table with the throttle.
No possibility with unintended consequences from running the Tazer on cool down mode? Has anyone looked at the Trans temp when you use cooldown mode? It pegs it a 250.... Tazer or PWM controller, doing basically the same thing, just differently.

Excessive heat has always been bad for plastics, Hoses, oil, etc... The amount of leaky water pumps and radiators should say something to this.

I've never driven another vehicle that runs this hot, and I can honestly say I know of any others that do. The 3.6 isn't some special X-Man edition block and moonrock made parts that no other car has to withstand 230-240 temps. People bitched about the fan running, and now everyone else wants it to run, what gives?

Family cars + Extended Family cars = 2016 Fiat Abarth, 2019 Tundra, 89 Samurai, 22 Subaru Cross trek, 22 Outback Wilderness, 2006 Avalon 3.5, 1990 Chevy step side, 2005 Ferrari California, 2015 Pathfinder, 20XX Porsche Boxter, 2006 Corolla and more..... None of them run at these temps. They all run 190-205 any given 100+ summer day. 230-240? It's not normal. it's just been beat into your head that its normal.... Deleting your Penis but not your catalytic converter isn't normal either, but look what happens when you're told it is for 10 years.... Jut My .02

I have been telling people for over 6 months that 235 /240 degrees is not good and way above I want to see
I get responses like
Well the engineers no what they are doing and if they say it OK then it must be OK
BULL SHIT . IT IS NOT OK

Based on...your gut feeling? You can do whatever you like but again, you have no data to back up anything.
You keep raising the temperature to try to make some sort of point. We get it, you like the fan controller.

Do what you like for why you like. This is America.

BTW, the guys designing the Boeing Max MCAS also said “there can’t be any unintended consequences, right?”

Exactly
But there is a difference
Boeing killed people
Jeep is only killing engines

Sigh, no, the point was consequences, not the specifics. Messing with the fan controller , what you all going to do when the controller dies and you don’t notice? Sort of betting the Jeep controller will last a little longer, but, you do you, enjoy.

again, with no evidence at all, suggesting that marginally higher fan control setpoints is leading to engine failures. It has never happened.

As I have disgust in other post
The only wire you cut is the small wire going to the rad. fan that controls the fan speed
By putting a on/off switch between the fan controller wire if you have a module fail you simply unplug the module and turn the switch to the on position putting it back to factory fan control via the ECM
Simple simple

I guess I don't really know if 240 degrees is bad or not. I know we are talking about the 3.6 but when my 2.0 hits 240 the cruise control shuts off and won't turn back on until I turn the Jeep on and off. At 240 it also goes into limp mode. I have to floor it and shift down to keep it at 55 mph. This makes me think 240 is too high.

I'm not an auto engineer (I'm mechanical) but it seems the limp mode is a dead giveaway that it's too hot.

Last time it overheated I was pulling the hill from Green River to the Moab turn off. I'm heading to Moab on the 27th and when I pull that hill I will use my JScan to crank the fan up too high and see if it overheats still. I'm hoping it doesn't.
