Got in the 2024 JLU for a ride to a new to me restaurant. Saw that the temperature display indicated 19° F, certainly didn't feel like it. Well, I checked it against the Davis Instruments weather station right here at home, the JL reads 5-6° less than the weather station. Close enough for me and glad to have determined the discrepancy.

How does your display read compared to another known source?

I have faith in your ability, you can do it. It's simply a matter of awareness.

Worked outdoors in Michigan year round and recreate outdoors just about as much. Heck I can do it in my sleep, unfortunately. One degree either way and the wrong bed cover will ruin a nights sleep here.

MIne is within a degree or 2F on startup compared to garage temp thermometers.

I find mine, will read high when I first start it up. like it remembers the temp when I parked it. Will be below freezing in the morning, and I will start the Jeep, and the temp will say 50 or 60 degree's.

Mine reads correct enough, but the strange thing is for example ... The trail head is 76, I put it in 4L, and go up over some pass where it is in the 50's, the temp will still read 76 ... until I take it our of 4L.

Why the Temp & 4L would be linked is beyond me.

I’ve had that happen to me too. Temp gets stuck and won’t update.

There are 2 banks down the street with temperature on their signs and my temp gauge is within 1 or 2 degrees of those.

it is not the 4L it is the speed or lack of. it actually stated in the owners manual that the vehicle had to be driven over a certain speed before it registers...

Good catch!

Still makes no sense to me, but at least it is expected behavior.

We did a Jeep Adventure Academy day a few years ago and I asked them about this - they said that the temp sensor is de-activated when in 4L because you're probably running real slow, causing heat buildup in the engine bay which would cause a false temp reading.

Ok, that makes sense ... Bit instead of deactivating, they should have moved the temperature probe somewhere where the engine temp isn't an issue.

I bought a thermometer and put the probe on the back side of the front bumper, and it generally does a pretty good job of not picking up the engine heat
