There are alot of people wheelin difficult trails on 37s with stock jl rubi axles without issues. I was told I'll be fine if I'm halfway responsible with the skinny pedal....no need to truss/RCV for 37s.
I've got 5 or 6 guys in my jeeping circle on JL's that have moved to 37" tires. 3 of them have twisted or broken axles. None of them have bent a housing.

4 of them have done gears and the one is debating gears or go back to 35's.

So that tells me that if you do 37's and drive it reasonably hard you probably need to be prepared to do axles at some point.

Not sure on the truss, but again it's one of those things you don't need until you wish you had it.

The one guy happy on 37's and factory axles/gears has the nickname "Gramps" and not because he's old.

At some point doesn’t necessarily mean immediately does it. I have 37’s and plan to do some blues at Rausch Creek this weekend and don’t want to get stranded because I broke and axle shaft.

You have the RCV shafts that still work with the FAD right? Is there any benefit to the RCV that is one piece and does’t work with the FAD?
I have the 2 piece . I had the one piece axle first, but because I run over 6 degrees of caster I had a slight vibration over 60 mph. With the one piece the front driveshaft spins all the time. I didn’t want to sacrifice the way my Jeep drives so I sold the one piece and got the 2 piece. I doubt I’ll get over 60 while wheeling so I don’t have to worry about any vibration.
The one piece does work without the fad, it has a spot where the fads fork goes. The fad thinks it’s still working so it doesn’t throw a code.
As far as benefits running the one piece, I think they would be greater if your on 40s. Again .. it depends on how you wheel it.

That’s good to hear. I would use both lockers and go slow and steady before I tried to power my way through and obstacle with the skinny pedal. I say that now sitting in my recliner haha

@chevymitchell has wheeled like a mofo coast to coast on 37s/beadlocks on stock axles with 4.88s. His experience is a legit testament to the capability of these JL axles.

You’ve got 4:88 gears and trusses on your axles? If so a swap sounds like a win win. Let me know if/when that’s definite that you’re modding back to stock.
We have 5.13s, that’s our new favorite for 37s with auto and manuals. No truss yet but have been installing them lately and absolutely love the results.

New truck should be in around mid March. Still consider selling turn key but the longer I think about it, the more it makes sense to return it to stock and get the trade in tax savings

5.13 is more gear than I want. But since you’ve got the facility it makes sense to sell off your mods and put it back stock before trading, that way at least you’ll get something instead of giving them away to the dealership.

Funny...I've never broken an axle going WOT. IME, the breakage more commonly happens on 1/2T axles when the wheels are not straight (not necessarily cranked to full lock either...that is a recipe for breakage) and you're climbing a decent sized rock/obstacle where things are bound up. In those cases, you're in the situation b/c the trail is tight enough you really don't have any other line choice. So, I'd argue that it's just as much a factor of how tight the trails you run are as how cautious you are with the go pedal.

Again, IME....37s require an upgrade in alloy other than 1541H in a D44 or other 1/2T rated steering axle.
He did have RCV shafts tho
For half the time...ran stock rear shafts the whole time. Also, checkout the wheelin Litebrite did on 37s and 38s with stock shafts before they went to RCV's.

Yeah, I'm definitely disagreeing. I just thought I would point that out. The JLs are much much stronger than any previous Jeep.

I'd listen to @Roky as he's been there and done that. I know he has RCV's but not sure that was due to axle problems or pre-emptive. I know when I see orange CV boots it's a sign of someone not afraid of the skinny peddle ;)

If your already lifted. 37s 4.88s RCVs, rear Yukon shafts, truss the front and rear. Skids are a good idea too.

I did all the above after getting a lift with the exception of rear truss, They dont make them yet. The skid plate I'm still considering. I want alum but it's 2k for the one I want. Even with a fat bank account it's hard to check that one off. lol

I got the two peice that works with FAD. less than 5% strength decrease under the one peice unit. My shop owner has the 1 peice and says he shouldve gone 2. He claims it's noisy now, not a lot but it's there.

Oh, I also upgraded my steering to some crazy alumunium 2.5 ton stuff. the stock stuff looks stout as hell but must be thin wall. Super light weight.

They did twist the rear shaft though. Bouncing there rig on east coast trails quite a bit finally did it in. The rear shaft are thick too. I replaced mine but wondered if I should have after seeing the stock ones. Still glad I did it.
