Just went to my dealer to get an oil change / tire rotation, and after waiting an hour they came out to tell me they couldn't change my oil because the diesel filters are on backorder. They apologized numerous times for not realizing earlier, and they're going to text me when they get them back in stock. Definitely a bummer since I have a 6k mile road trip coming up in Feb so I really need it changed before then. Be aware if you're trying to get your oil changed any time soon!

They are readily available on Amazon.

This could be a sign to try changing the oil yourself. Buy a Fumoto + 10mm (ID) tubing to direct the flow of used oil into a disposal container. 15 minute job, about $100 for filter/oil, no mess, and you'll avoid being the next installment in "the dealer screwed up my 'free' oil change" saga(s).

Amazon is estimating Saturday delivery on the filter, so you can do it over the weekend - let alone waiting til February.

Be sure to liberally lube the two o-rings before installing the filter.

Honestly I like my dealer and I haven't had any issues with them in the 10 years I've been going there. I was just trying to use my free Jeep Wave oil changes while they're still valid. If the dealer doesn't get any in stock before Feb I'll change the oil myself for sure.

I thought you engineers were hands on. It's the finance guys, like me, who generally tend to avoid DIY projects. :)

Remember: free isn't free. You may like your dealer, but the least-experienced employee at their shop will do the work.

Depends on what kind of engineers. There's a lot in my line of work who would have trouble working an air hose to fill a tire.

Anyone have a link to amazon for OEM oil filter? Sometimes searching myself and scammers from China are selling knockoffs.

OP, you've got a 21, so I'm assuming this isn't one of the "free" changes? If it is, then have at it.

But, if you are paying for a dealer oil change . . . why? Do you really have that much money to throw away?

It is one of the free changes.

Given how many dealer oil change techs break things (cracked housings from over torquing) and put in oil that doesn't meet spec (Rotella doesn't meet spec), I stand by my assertion that sometimes free just costs too much. YMMV.

Way too many stories like this: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...-with-no-oil-after-routine-oil-change.105218/

I usually drain the old oil before turning my attention to the oil filter. You have to ask yourself: what exactly transpired in the one hour before they approached you?
Yeah I'm really not worried about dealer incompetence on an oil change; never had a problem with them before. I think those issues are few and far between considering 873,994 JLs have been sold in the US (not even including 2022) which means that at least 1,747,988 oil changes have been done to them by dealers (probably more since I'm only including two per vehicle). I'm happy to take my ~0.000572% odds (assuming like 10 of the posts I've seen about this) of a dealer destroying my Jeep from a free oil change :)

The check in manager just didn't realize it was a diesel, and when they finally brought it into the shop to change it the tech immediately told him that they're out of filters for diesels. It's not that hard of a mistake for a random guy working the front desk to make IMO.
