How far up into the oil pan does the Fumoto valve stick up. My concern is old oil still in the oil pan because the valve body is above the lowest part of the oil pan keeping all the oil from draining out.Install a Fumoto valve and these issues go away. MAkes oil changes so much easier. Just hook a tube to it, place the other end of tube in the drain pan, and flip the switch and let it drain. No more messes.
MUCH better solution that the Fumoto IMHO, especially the compact version. Just curious if you could comment on which one you have and which drain tool you'd recommend. Even though their website is pretty explanatory, I always like to hear from actual users, especially when the Fumoto product seems to be more popular. Thanks and happy Jeepin'!Every time I see this, I can't help but think it's a bad idea because of how far it would hang down. You're better off going with something like https://nospillsystems.com/ since then it's no worse a clearance/rock catching issue than a normal drain plug.
This. And if they try to blame you for overtightening the plug, you already have a paper trail from your last oil change with them. No reason you should have to invest more of your own time, energy, elbow grease, and money to fix their mistake. When we fail to point out the dealership's mistakes, we're only reinforcing bad behavior and they'll just continue to do it again and again.Take it to the dealer. Pay for one more oil change. And specifically tell them not to overtighten the drain plug. You’re fairly fucked if it’s stripped and you break part of it in your garage.

Not enough to make any difference. How far up into the oil pan does the Fumoto valve stick up. My concern is old oil still in the oil pan because the valve body is above the lowest part of the oil pan keeping all the oil from draining out.
This. Unless it's a warranty repair, my Jeep isn't going to a dealer. Any work I can't do myself will be done at an independent shop.If you want to avoid this in the future stop going to the dealership.
Never mentioned to pay for a oil change. This is their doing it should be fixed by them at no charge / minimal charge. The problem there is they will get it loose and probably mangle it and charge you for a new overpriced plug and then proceed to overtighten it and still charge full price for an oil change. And now the new plug is too tight and you send it back again. Rinse and repeat. The service writer will defend his jackasses saying it was you and not them.
Dealer idiot cranked your oil drain plug no doubt go with a breaker bar use your foot brace your arms under the Jeep Leg are 4X stronger than your arms!Any other weak people out there?
I have a 2.0 Turbo, and can't get the bolt/plug on the oil pan to budge at all. I tried 1/2" and 13mm sockets. Even added a breaker bar. I changed the oil myself the first time, with no problem at all. I didn't even think about the oil pan plug bolt.
Over the winter (2nd oil change) I had the dealer do it -- it was cold, and I had a Jeep Wave freebie. Third oil change was supposed to be today, but I failed. Miserably. And I'm concerned I'm going to strip the plug. Any advice from more experienced ppl other than "get stronger?" I hate being weak. But I also don't see myself dedicating time to muscle building any time soon. I guess I'll cash in my next free oil change, but It's going to be well past due by the time I can get an appt.
I'd second this... err maybe I'll be 4th or 5th-ing itInstall a Fumoto valve and these issues go away. MAkes oil changes so much easier. Just hook a tube to it, place the other end of tube in the drain pan, and flip the switch and let it drain. No more messes.
My drain pan is a jug as well. It lays on it's side and has a cap there that would normally just let the oil flow into it if you drained it normally. I just stick the hose in the hole where the cap goes and drain it so no mess at all. Put the cap back on, then can stand it up. When Im ready to dump it down the storm drai..., er take it to the auto parts store, I can just grab the handle and when i get there just take off the top cap and pour it out like a jugular jug of oil. I've had this pan thing for probably 20 years.I'd second this... err maybe I'll be 4th or 5th-ing it. I just did my first oil change at 500 miles for break-in and installed an F106SX M14-1.5 adjustable position drain valve. Will make future oil changes so much easier. Double check but afaik the 2.0L turbo is also M14-1.5 I'm just not entirely positive.
I'll also eventually get a Baxter remote oil filter adapter once I'm out of warranty so I can add a small additional oil radiator with a 10% bypass valve and a spin-on filter. That way I never have to touch the plastic oil filter/cooler housing again and it'll be better at keeping the oil temps in check on a hot summer FL day.
EDIT: Also @BetOnBlack do yourself another favor and pickup a 2 gallon F-Type oil jug and drain directly into it and put your oil catch pan into storageYou can pick one up for around $6-10. You can even go one step further and get a hose cap for it so you can leave your 3/8"od hose attached to it and just swap the cap when you're taking it to dump the oil for recycling.
And we all nod when the guy at the store is like, bruh, that's JUST engine oil, right? My drain pan is a jug as well. I have both Fumoto and Valvomax. I think Valvomax better for an offroading Jeep.i installed the valvomax drain plug and just keep the tool in two zip lock bags in the engine compartment tucked by the fuse box! It is super sturdy, makes oils changes 5 times easier and less messy! It doesn’t hang down like fumoto but it does require a “tool” / additional piece.
