Undoubtedly, IF the JL owner pushes the thing, the service department will fold and do the oil change.

One way to deal with it is go the the dealership, (not call them) request the free oil change and if the dealer refuses, right while you are there in front of them, call Jeep Customer Service and get them involved.

I've done this for other issues and Jeep Customer Service will call the dealership in question right while I am on the phone with them. Right while I'm standing at the service counter. Dealership more often then not, will do the deed, if you so to speak double team them like I say.

Keep this in mind..... IF you go to a service department and the service writer says they will not cover under warranty, do say wait a minute to the service writer and do not agree to pay for the repair. Now, walk outside and call Jeep Customer Service and play lets make a deal with them. More often then not, the repair will be done completely under warranty or FCA will pick up a good percentage of the repair costs. You pay that service department the reduced $ amount that day.

IF you pay for the repair and then call Jeep Customer Service, and cry foul, FCA will often send you via a check a % of what it cost you. This process can take weeks and I have found it is best to do as I said in the last paragraph.

Since 2007 I have had a few JK's and now a JL... what I mentioned above has worked at least 7 times for me. Actually, it never has failed to work.

Note: When you call Customer Service to cry foul, have your reasons ready why it should be done under warranty. Be polite, calm and along with this state you are a loyal Jeep customer and you are confident they will do you right. NEVER go ballistic on the Cust. Service rep..

I feel like they'd do the equivalent of a waiter spitting in your food. I'd just go somewhere else...
Yeah, like not changing out the filter or adding something foreign into the oil. That is exactly why I went to another dealer and didnā€™t push it.

As a guy that has had ownership in restaurants and grew up with a Father that owned restaurants, I hear ya in regard to the "spitting in your food" thing. To this day, if restaurant food comes out bad, I do not send it back to the kitchen, but rather say food is bad.. not acceptable and I'm leaving..

As for the 7 times, I had to call FCA while at a dealer. Was when I was on the road traveling... Dealership did not know me and would never see me again. They wanted to charge me to fix something and not place it on warranty. Last time this happened was when the defrost wire broke off of a JK's rear window in the winter when I was on a long road trip. JK was 9 months old and dealer was saying I would have to pay versus warranty.
With FCA call they did fix it while I stood there and watched and it was under warranty.

Most of the times, I let them do the repair and then after the fact, called FCA and they gave me all or part of the $ I had paid back to me. They mailed me a check.

All times I had issues were when I was out of state.

I never have issues with the two local dealerships I deal with. My local guys do know though if I get taken care of properly I always write a letter to the dealership's owner and GM praising the good experience/service. I think they know I would also be writing them, FCA, on Facebook, etc. if they screwed me over, etc... 8-) I also tip, the tech each and every time they work on my vehicle(s). I make it a point to be on first name basis with the GM and to have a good relationship and lots of communication with him.

For the record, I steer clear of dealership service departments. I only resort to using them... dealing with them unless it is too expensive to deal with the issue myself, or something that I am not equipped to do myself. I know very well dealership.... service department are not my friends.....

I called my selling dealership last Friday to make an appointment for my first oil change. He says yes it is free, but the tire rotation costs $25! This should be fun. Guess I'll have to show them the Wave website.

My dealership does a good job following up. Just got the call for my first free oil change the other day.

Outside of free work at the dealership, I have used a small local Firestone for oil changes and other little things on vehicles through the years. They have a good service manager I know and trust. I always use the app for coupons and they do five-tire rotations for $10.
