So, I took my Jeep into the dealership for Jeep Wave oil change #2 (I know ). Jeep Wave #1 went well so what the heck. Well, I get home after doing things around town to check the level and such like I always do when I don't change the oil myself. I could barely get the hood open as somehow they bent my hood latch. I called the service manager and he was like "So? Just bring it in and we'll order the part", no apology, nothing. So now I have to drive 30 minutes each way twice because they don't know how to close a seemingly simple hood. Ugh! Maybe I'll order the part myself and install it, better than 2 hours of driving and 2 service waits to fix their screw up. <sigh>

So the part is super cheap, I'll just remove mine bend it back carefully and pick up another from the dealership on my way to work. So frustrating. Knowing Jeep, I didn't know if it was like a $100 part or that it wasn't available by itself and you'd have to order a new "hood assembly" even though it is held on by two 10mm bolts.

EDIT: By "the dealership", I mean another dealership which is more convenient to stop by when I'm already commuting to work.

Wonder if you could just ask a dealership to put the "free" 6 quarts in a take-home jug for you, as long as you promise to break the plastic filter housing, spill oil everywhere or forget to install the drain plug on your own? ?

They probably give you the "complete treatment" on the 3rd Jeep Wave service where they do the essential services you list.

Mine will not see the inside of the dealership again unless there's a catastrophic failure while still under warranty. My former diesel had it's last oil change at the dealer and it took me a few hours to clean up the spilled oil on the engine and front diff. Those free oil changes are worth less than they cost.

Sorry for your bad experience. There is just NO WAY I'm taking my Jeep to the dealer for an oil change.Doing your own service is the perfect opportunity to catch small problems early. Nothing mechanical really scares me but the electronics on the new Jeeps......That's what keeps me up at nights.

Jeep dealership screwing up an oil change, another veteran member ignoring the warnings to not use "free" oil changes... A tale as old as the sun.

I am a about to take mine in for its 2nd Wave oil change. I watched the tech do the first one from the waiting room. It was a tech and not some low paid teenager. I checked the level after I picked it up as I would with any vehicle. If my experience is similar with the other two free oil changes, I'll continue to take it to this dealer. That way if the drain plug gets stripped or filter housing is damaged, it's on them.
