took delivery of a factory ordered 2024 2 dr MT in January 2024, and after almost a year of ownership, I only have 849 miles. would changing the oil once per year be sufficient with the plan on only driving 1000 miles per year. any thoughts ?

Once a year is fine on a quality synthetic oil as long as your drives are fully heating the engine. If the reason you have only 849 miles in a year is that you drive 1 mile trips, then you need to change more often. Failure to thoroughly heat the oil to remove moisture is a problem.

I have a 23 2door JL 8-speed auto with similiar low mileage. I. change oil every 6-mos. It's cheap and can't hurt so why not?

I was doing mine once a year only driving 2,000 miles or so but I bumped it up to around every 8 months. It’s $30 and 20 minutes so I figured why not.

I am a widower with 3 vehicles on which I drive a total of about 4,000 miles per year total. At the end of September after the heat of the summer and before the cool of winter, I service all three which includes a oil change. I use Mobil 1 synthetic oil.

Mobil 1 synthetic is a good choice. I am trying Pennzoil Platinum for this next interval.

Assuming you have the V6 then you need API oil that meets Chrysler spec MS-6395

Why switching ?
Both are about the same price but an article I read listed the Pennzoil as a better oil. I tried Liquimoly in the past as it made the engine in my Audi run much smoother and quieter over Mobil 1 but I did not see that in the Wrangler.
