Oil Catch Can Install

That is insane and not normal. Then again, I'm not surprised with how the 3.6l build quality has been these last few years. Pacificas & WLs are blowing hadgaskets right at 50-60k miles like clockwork. Fortunately haven't seen many wranglers with that issue

Do you really think the jeep issued the TSB 09-012-22 and the updated PCV valve because it was not an issue.
The engineers got it wrong and now they are tying to fix the poorly designed PCV system.

So contacted my dealer this AM and asked him about the TSB 09-012-22 fir my 24 Rubicon and he looked it up and said it’s not applicable to my Rubicon. Would I assume that the 24s have the new style pcv? And should I still consider adding a catch can?

what problem are you trying to solve? The issue that one member with the 2 failed engines back to back, while using a catch can, taught us that there can be unintended consequences from adding and changing things, even if you don't believe his problem was a hydraulic lock from oil ingestion.

If you're worried about carbon buildup on the back of the intake valves and combustion chamber, use a low ash (SAPS) oil like Mobil 1 Extended Performance or M1 ESP. I took my intake manifold off of my 3.6 a few weeks ago and found it had almost no buildup in the ports, valves or plugs and a leakdown test of 79/80 on all cylinders. I have been running M1 Extended Performance 5w30 for a few years.

That's up to you. It is a maintenance issue. Meaning it will have to be checked and drained every 1000 to 2000 miles. Adding a long drain hose with a ball valve at the end of the hose can extended how often you need to drain it and makes it easy to maintain and drain.
I did install the new updated PCV valve on my 2020 and it made NO difference on the amount of oil it collected.
If it was my jeep and knowing what I know about the 3.6 I would install one and see how much oil it collects. Its filters out the crude that you would be normally sending though your intake manifold.
I installed the UPR catch can and left the original hoses in place in case I had to take it to the dealer I can remove it.

You perform that level of maintenance multiple times on a long trip? Woah.

That could be true and depends on the type of driving and the oil you use.
I am now running 5w40 and will do my first oil can drain today after spending all day running the sand dunes at Sand Hollow.

I added a UPR catch can and it completely eliminated my sever spark knock
The down fall on most catch cans mainly the 3.6 is they are to small and can fill quickly when you are at a steep angel.
To solve this problem I added a 4 ft 1/2 drain hose with a ball valve at the end of the hose doubling it capacity.
After over 10k miles using the catch can I have never had oil in the can it self. It was all in the hose keeping the oil out of the PCV system.
When and if I had to take it to the dealer it could be easily removed.
At this point with all my mods they will not warranty any thing on my Jeep. So its all on me.

Want to share what hose and other components you used? How you routed it through the engine bay? I’m interested in doing this…

Here is an earlier post with pictures.
As you can see I made a bracket for the UPR catch can to clear the Baxter oil filter adapter.
This also gave me more room for the drain hose.
Also just drained my oil catch can at about 1500 miles. about 4oz. and all was in the drain hose none in the can it self.

Sorry I responded in the wrong thread. Very cool but I don’t see where you have the hose coming out the catch can. Did you drill and tap a fitting on the bottom of the can or something?

The UPR already has a 1/4 pipe drain in the bottom.

A catch-can is a condenser. So, the cooler it is, the more efficient it will be.

That's true.
I had to use the UPR because all my other places in the engine are taking up.
A cooler location would be better. Put the UPR works great.
