Hi All,

Just wanted to check in and mention I'm from Cleveland as well. I'd like to get out to Southington soon also. Would love to meet and wheel with some of you. I'm most likely putting my lift on next weekend since this whole weekend looks like typical NEO shit weather. The 6th is out for me but anytime after that. Kind of sucks they are only open 1 weekend per month. I'll be itching to test out the new lift so maybe May 11th or 12th.
I’m in the same boat as you lol, it’s been raining for 2 days here in central Ohio. Looking forward to checking out southington though as I’ve never been.

Welcome! With a rubicon AND you’re putting a lift on it, I’d say you’ll be fine at southington. One of my favorite trails, and the one I like to start with - upper rim - there are a couple spots where if you take a wrong line, you will scrape a little underside. This is obviously no issue for the Jeep but I can see some people aren’t weird like me and aren’t ok with their brand new jeeps scraping.

I’ll check back in the thread in a day or so to try and coordinate a meet with folks here that are interested in going to southington next Saturday.

Side note, it seems there are roads in Vinton County that are so poorly maintained, people use them to wheel on (and they’re open to the public). People who know about them seem to be hesitant to give up their exact location, which I can understand because people actually live there, but I’d love to wheel it sometime. I did join MOJO, who I understand wheels those roads a lot, but I haven’t seen or heard anything from them about taking a trip somewhere. Huh.

I definitely want to hit southington and others but will most likely wait until the wet season is gone and the sun comes out. On a side note I got my tickets to Jeep invasion in Pigeon Forge for August.

Haha. I already christened the jeep at Windrock in TN a couple of weekends ago.

Do they rate their trails green/blue/black like most places do?

They oddly do not rate them. They barely have a map too. There’s a Google Map you can access (provided you use google maps on your phone). The staff are really nice though and while I didn’t ask them which trails a noob can run(I did the stupid thing and just started driving around) I did overhear them helping out another, smarter noob. This was my first time there last year. :)

Hey again, everyone!

Just wanted to check in and say I’ll be at Southington on Saturday at 10AM at the cabin. If anyone wants to join me, you’re more than welcome to.

Photo of my Jeep is attached. I have made some changes since that photo (too lazy to take another right now) but along with the red grill inserts, I’ve got a bright red hi-lift jack on the front bumper, a bright red CB antenna in back and a new hood decal in black/red Rubicon lettering with my Jeeps name - Bear Trap. Can’t miss it ;)

Hope to see some folks there and if not, there’s plenty more opportunities throughout the year!

Cheers

I know this thread has been somewhat light on responses but wanted to check in and say two things
  1. If anyone wants to join me at Southington Offroad Park for a day of fun, I’ll be there on Saturday April 6th (sometime in the morning, time TBD). I’ve been several times so I know my way around (for the most part) and I have lots of recovery gear if needed!
  2. On May 18th, I’ll be at NEO Jamboree in Jefferson, OH. They have early bird tickets on sale now (so I got mine at a discount). I plan on participating in beginner level trail runs and if anyone wants to buddy up, lemme know - at the least, I just want to let Ohio folks know it’s coming up and sounds like a great time and place to have some Jeep fun! (It’s also on topless day!)

I would be interested! I'm from the Aurora/Solon Area.

Right on! Sunday is going to be a really awesome day to go! Have fun and let me know what trails you got into.

I’ll definitely be posting back with some photos.

Im putting together a schedule for myself of all the Jeep stuff this year and there’s so much between Southington and other jamborees and festivals and parades. Going to be a great year. I’ll share more info with people soon. Sometimes it’s difficult to find this stuff but I’ve got some good sources.

Looks like fun! I'm from Canton but sadly won't be back there till about Christmas time. Work has me in South Carolina for the first half of the year and then Puebla Mexico for the second half. I'd love to get out to Southington. Down here I've gone to Uwharrie OHV and they open in April and don't close till November. It seems like Southington needs to do something like that, a few weekends of the year isn't enough.

I am about 20 minutes from Southington, but have not had the chance to go. I will have to give it a try sometime soon. I work with a guy who takes his stock JK sport and says he has no problem on the stock jeep trails.

Right on! They’re open this weekend. I was trying to go tomorrow but may have conflicting plans. If you have interest in going on Sunday, I’d be happy to go - been about a dozen times so far so I’m very familiar with the trials by now and what’s good for stock versus not

I am thinking I will be able to make it out the weekend of July 4th. If I do end up going anytime soon I can let you know and maybe we can meet up.
