Well, CA has been a safe haven... you can literally walk out of a store with stolen merchandise and nobody will stop you. Some states you have the right to protect your property and life.

Depending on your age, renember when South Africa had it real bad with car jacking? There was a company that installed a James Bond type system to release pressurized ignited gas at a car jacker before they can reach in from window. Apparently word got around and car jacking declined with luxury and prized vehicals.
It always makes me chuckle when I hear people making blanket statements about an entire state…any state. Things in any state can vary widely from county to county.

None... but it pays well.

I lived in Cali for half my life. From Monterey, Santa Cruz, Los Gatos, Santa Clara, Sacramento, and as far north as Trinity County. So I guess south of Monterey is different? The north of Sacramento wants out, that is how bad it is, like the south west VA wants to be part of W VA.

In my law enforcement career I worked in two vastly different counties in northern and southern CA and I’ll say it again…blanket statements and stereotypes about any state as a whole, or a group of people as a whole, are ignorant. If hyperbole or repeating stereotypes or sensationalized news is what someone wants to do, they are of course free to do so. I prefer not to. The soap box is all yours.

You’re welcome My comment of “move” was sarcastic. Those things happen everywhere, to some extent, but we like to think not where we live.
How many were stolen in Vermont last year?

“Those things happen everywhere, to some extent, but we like to think not where we live”
If the answer is zero, then my words, “to some extent” are not true, and I’ll happily retract my statement and consider moving to Vermont.

Pretending that crime rates aren’t different in different places, I don’t understand why someone would even do that. Car theft isn’t like gravity, it doesn’t have to exist. The policies of a place predict a certain environment.

If you took my statement that way that isn’t what I was trying to communicate. I thought saying these things happen “everywhere to some extent” was saying it is better or worse in a variety of places but not inescapable. Anyway I have no quarrel with you. And I have no illusion of being an expert on any given place.

“ Local News 8” 02/07/26 SDPD data shows the Jeep Wrangler was the most stolen model of car in San Diego for the second year in a row, with 193 reports made to police.

Anyone install an OBD port lock? Any recommendations.

I have a 2025 and being close to the Border, I have hood and wheel locks, just bought a Tevalphee steering wheel lock and I have a SWAT alarm.🥵
Please appreciate Victoria, as I suspect you might, that steering wheel locks, while they will certainly slow down a thief, and no lock is adequate for the sufficiently motivated burglar, the adage "a chain is only as strong as its weakest link" certainly has applicability here as steering wheels, because they are designed to bend in an accident, are trivial to cut through.

I think this more effective:
