I have a question for those that have switched front bumpers, but kept your OEM LED fog lights. It seems that a lot of aftermarket bumpers have mounts for the OEM LED fogs, but many are completely open from the back. Has anyone had any issues with the back of the fog lights now being exposed to all the crap the tires fling all over the place? On the stock bumpers the fogs are protected from the back, so it got me wondering if they NEED protecting, and some aftermarket offerings just fail in that area.

I wouldn't say they NEED protecting but it's better if they are.
If only to avoid the difficulty of cleaning out dried mud and avoiding the question of pressure washing it or not.

If it’s water intrusion your worried about, mine are open and I have done several deep water crossings with no adverse effects.

I worry more about a loose stick popping up and snagging a wire more than anything else, but I haven’t found a good solution to enclosing the back.

They are not really protected on the OEM steel bumper.
Yep. Stock bumper with little protection here and never had an issue. I've also done several deep water crossings and some that are more than just a simple 1 second crossing.

Warn Elite front and rear bumpers on my '20 Ruby 2-door and zero issues with anything and yes, back of fog's are exposed. I installed the Warn bumpers shortly after delivery and used the LED fog's from my stock plastic bumper...Install was a royal PITA with fogs from the plastic bumper (fogs from OEM steel are a direct swap) as I had to carefully modify the lights plastic mounting rings (about an hour per fog working on the bench; cutting, sanding & drilling...OCD) but looked 100% OEM when finished, both from front and backside of the bumper!

That's good info, I didn't know that. I have the plastic bumpers on both my JLs. Thank you!

This is for my wife's DD, likely to remain a pavement princess. I was more concerned with water/road salt spray and other road debris. I agree with there not really being a good solution for enclosing the back.

Yeah, it all looks easy, till it isn't. I have the bumper but I don't have the time wo swap it so getting the fog lights mounted is future me's problem, for now.

I had this bumper on for a little over a year. This is a recent shot of the backside with the light housing exposed. Depending on your bumper, it’s not likely to get a lot of salt on it.
