No Reason Here For LED Lights

If the standard halogen lamps are adequate for your needs, that's all that matters. The JL's are much improved over the previous generation. Halogens do have the benefit of generating heat which prevents icing.

Yea, I wonder how much better they are than the ones on the JK. The ones on my 2015 JK were awful. Like, the only thing I remember being worse was our 1995 Mercury Mystique.... and GM cars from the late 80s/early 90s with those tiny little halogens lol.

Like, on the freeway I could confidently say they lit up nowhere near enough distance if you were traveling 70mph.

I'm not sure about the IIHS ratings but I'm not too terribly shocked. The JL headlights do seem brighter on first glance, but the reach doesn't seem all that amazing.

OTOH, I'm not sure how they can make that better. A higher quality projector/reflector housing perhaps? Better LED arrangement? The LED lights already get me the "Imma shine my highbeams as revenge because I'm blinded by your LED headlights" treatment quite often.

Also as I recall, the JK headlights had a really annoying PWM flicker.

It seems pretty common that the factory adjustment of the headlights has the cutoff above the oncoming traffic's eye level. That will get you flashed regardless of LED or halogen.

I have a sport with the halogen lights. There not great, but ok and better than some vehicles I have had over the years. One day I will upgrade to LEDs.

Not really up to speed on newer lights, will research when the time comes.

Question though, you used to be able to get halogens in several power levels. I changed out many over the years on motorcycles. Is this just the older H4s? Or can the jeep halogens be changed to more powerful ones.

Anybody know?

Edit: Had to refresh myself. It appears that yes you can get better halogen lights. Not a huge difference in how much light they make, but still an improvement. You can also get halogens that make a white light. Not like an LED but whiter than the normal yellowish halogen.

However I had forgotten that you can also buy direct replacement LED light bulbs for halogen lights that make considerably better light, and a hell of a lot cheaper than an entire LED replacement light assembly.

Before I purchased my Jeep I was on the fence about the Led package. Glad I went the led they are a game changer indeed. Love ‘em

Coming from a 2005 GMC Sierra, the stock halogens are amazing. Hardly LED quality but they work pretty darn good when you take a moment to aim them correctly. Of all the vehicles I've owned, this JL is the easiest to adjust the headlight beams on. The provided tool kit has all you need. Might take 5 minutes if that to do so.

I've driven both halogen and LED Jeeps. Yep, the LED is the hands down winner. I think the stock halogens are a subtle jab to add auxiliary lighting...just saying! I put the LED money into skids...

glad if you're happy with lower-performance lighting that requires more power and has a shorter lifespan. but unless you have tried driving behind the lamps in the Wrangler, you honestly don't have any real basis for comparison and no idea what you're missing and disparaging. hint; it's not just about brightness.
(and no, the lights in your old Grand are not a good basis for comparison.)

it's nice to have faith in things you don't have any proof of. but may i suggest if you want to be taken seriously you consider showing the same grace you're pushing with your avatar? there's no reason to get snitty with people that point at facts.

Drove our 2023 JLU in the dark last night for the first time. I ordered the Wrangler without the LED lighting. No regrets, the factory halogens light up the road just fine. If you don't over drive your headlights like you were supposed to be taught in drivers education, you will have no issues seeing what is necessary in front, or to the side of you. Also living in a snowy State, I don't have issues with snow/ice building up on the lights. I have been driving for over 45 years, and never had an issue driving at night without the aid of LED lighting. I spent the $1200.00 Jeep would have charged me for factory LEDs, and bought lots of accessories I actually got use out of. When it comes to off-roading, that's a different scenerio than normal street driving, which is all I do.

My Willys was used and it had aftermarket LED Fogs and Headlights.
My 2020 Subaru Outback has LED Headlights and Foglights.

I don’t overdrive my vehicles at anytime because I have no need too.
52 years of driving here.

Now one of the many reasons I want the best in lighting for my vehicles.
1) I’m getting old!
2) 7 years ago I had a brain tumor in the left front lobe of my skull that was pressing on my optic nerve on the left side as well as the sinuses. It caused issues with my peripheral vision that I was unaware of until after the tumor was removed. My vision on the left is pretty much back to normal but time does take it’s toll on vision.
3) The exploding Deer population in the area! I see more deer in my local area than I do at my brother in law’s 85 acres down in the Southern Tier of NY STate. Some of the local roads I run all the lights I can and I can highlight a lot of deer In either vehicle.

Be thankful that you have something that you feel that is adequate for your needs and that you have been blest to have great vision.

I ripped my LEDs out because I live in a city and don't need that much light. Replaced them with LPG powered gas lamps, like the olden days. I have to drive much slower now so I don't out drive my lamps, but hey that's safer. Only problem is now I get people flashing me from behind. I just wave them on past.
