The collateral effect of unplugging the relevant hood plunger is the illumination of the ESS Not Available icon on the dashboard. Provided the owner doesn't mind that occurring, disconnecting the plunger is a free and easily-reversible method of disabling the ESS function.

I think the hood sensor is the easiest way to disable ESS. My dashboard light has been on for as long as I've owned the Jeep and only bothers me a tiny bit, most of the time I don't notice it. I did not do anything myself to disable ESS so I don't know why it doesn't work and like I said before I have no incentive to troubleshoot it.

If ESS on a JL is not working after an Aux battery bypass or Aux battery delete, then something is a muck with the JL.

Without question: When you bypass the Aux battery or delete the Aux battery, ESS still works on a JL or JT. No, you do not need "to do some wiring tricks to make it still work."

.
If you're disconnecting a cable from the Aux battery, shouldn't you remove the battery? A battery unable to re-charge seems a liability.

Yes, maybe I should. I don't think it's a high risk item especially if the battery if discharged.
