Just bought my first jeep, 23 sport s 2 door. First thing I want to do is replace the front bumper.

Im interested in the mopar rubicon stubby steel bumper. My only concern is I’ve seen on a couple of sites in the description, “Dealer programming is required for vehicles equipped with halogen fog lamps”.

What does this mean? Anyone have any experience with this? I do have halogen fog lamps and want to know if the new bumper’s led lights will plug in and work.

Don’t want to be the guy going to the dealer to have my lights “programmed”.

Appreciate any help y’all can provide.

You have to program the ECU to be able to run halogen headlights with LED fog lights.

In order to not have to get a new program you can just swap your halogen fogs into the bumper. But, they will not interchange with the LED fogs that come with the bumper without aftermarket adapter plates. If you can find those plates, just change out the LED fogs with your halogens and be done with it.

I'm on a 2021 Sahara Altitude with halogens and the LEDs in the OEM steel bumper I picked up were 100% plug and play. Nothing needed.

HOWEVER, if you're likely to be doing some mods and such in the future, it would be wise to invest in your own programmer.

There are two primary options:

- Tazer; more pricey, but can do more. Specifically, it's designed to be "married" to the vehicle, and constantly monitors for things and can change things on-the-fly (also called "live"). For example, it can disable ESS, etc.

- JScan; less pricey, but lacks the "live" feature. Basically, this lets you read what's currently written and overwrite it in the code. It does NOT marry to the vehicle, you can plug it in, do what you need, then unplug it and everything stays. Jscan app is a bit less intuitive, and you need dongles to do the whole "thing". Here's the post about it in my build thread: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/joyride-hydro-jlusa-build-thread.76001/post-2069860

Appreciate the info fellas. Not 100% on the stubby rubicon, still looking at options.

I’ve had the jeep less than 48 hrs and the bumper is off and I have some scs wheels ordered lol. We modding ?

The OEM steel bumper is a fantastic bumper, IMO (especially if you can pick it up as a take-off, vs paying from the factory). I lucked into mine for $500 cash - included the steel skid plate AND a Rockhard4x4 bull bar. I keep the wings on most of the time, but pull them off when I hit dirt. The Grimm Offroad winch plate fits it perfectly as well.

What model jeep did you put it on? Did it have the halogen or led fog lamps?

As mentioned above, put it on my Sahara Altitude with halogen lights. No issues.

I would not put the LED lights on until you program the jeep to recognize them. It seems that some folks like rcadden just plug them in and they work but others, myself included, fry their LEDs (two example threads below). Don't take the chance. You can change the setting using JSCAN or a Tazer rather than going to the dealer which makes sense if you plan to make changes in the future like tire size.

I wouldn’t buy a mopar front bumper. Not again anyways. Worst option I added when ordering the Jeep. The thing is crap. All the best to ya though.

Any recommendations? Looking for a low profile minimalist bumper. Evo qp caught my eye.
