I'm making plans to order a new JLU. I've been lurking here for a while and have already learned a lot. Thanks to everyone who has contributed, I've learned that Gupton is a great place to order from. I've also learned that the Jeep online configurator is kinda wonky, that I probably don't want Gorilla Glass, and that if I want half doors I'm better off ordering them with the rest of the truck. Questions that remain:

  • What is the difference between Base Uppers and Premium Uppers on the Dual Door Group?
  • Can I really not specify a Sahara or Sahara Altitude with a manual trans and the limited slip rear axle?
  • Are all the various options that are "by Mopar" just bits in boxes packed in the back of the Jeep that I can just as easily pick up from the parts department later if I want?
  • I thought I read somewhere that the Smokers' Group adds another power outlet in the rear seat area. Is this in fact the case?
  • Are there certain colors, equipment or options that are known to cause ordering delays?

Thanks in advance for your help. I've learned so much, and yet mostly I've learned that I have so much more to learn . . .

Welcome.

Yes, the online building configurator at Jeep.com is (and has been) a mess. You're better off grabbing the ordering guides from this forum (they're pinned in a couple of threads and typically updated monthly). There is also a spreadsheet (another pinned thread) that will allow you to manually option, configure, and price your build.

I recently completed a purchase thru Gupton and have nothing but the highest praise for their business. My order process was super smooth (three emails between Daniel and I). 12 weeks later, another three emails between Renee and I got my wife's Jeep ready for delivery. Our time at the dealer on delivery day was super smooth, about 90 minutes, and 30 of that was just shooting the breeze since the finance clerk was backed up.

I see you're in SoCal, so you might check out the thread (and spreadsheet) with dealers selling below MSRP. There might be a dealer that can match Gupton a little closer to you.

Dig around this forum, and most of your questions will have already been answered.

... also, it appears that the limited slip rear axle IS available with the 6 speed in the Sahara in all trims (code DSA). However, the 6 speed itself is NOT available in the High Altitude trim.

Another positive review for Gupton here.

I did not do the smoker's package on my Sahara Altitude and I have 3 power sources in the back seat - 2 USB ports and a standard 110v plug.

When I did my build, I tried to only choose options that I didn't think I could source/install on my own later. I would assume that any MOPAR options, yes, you could just pick them up later, either from the dealership or off FB Marketplace or whatnot.

Ordering delays happen for various reasons and change at different times. When I was ordering, it was Gorilla Glass and Hardtop Headliner that were supposedly holding builds up, but my Sahara Altitude (with headliner) built, shipped, and delivered in 8 weeks (summer '21)
