New windshield

2022 Unlimited two months old. Wife was on I45 in Texas. Truck threw a rock. Created 4” crack straight up from bottom of windshield took a left and crack continued 10”.
Safelite replaced today. Tech said Wrangler are most common replacement. Cost me 500 deductible. He said could easily happen again, so I lowered my comprehensive deductible to $100.

That was the ONE dealer offered warranty I opted for. first 3 windshields are free for only 500 bucks up front.

That was a good call. I wish I had done that. Instead I broke my first windshield a few months after I bought it. After I replaced it, I put this film on to protect it: https://www.grab-gard.com/products/jeep-wrangler-windshield

2020 Sahara. Picked up 9/5/2019. 65k miles plus. Includes miles in various conditions. Interstate, highway, backroads, gravel, farm / field, mild off-road, and yes, even some mall parking lots.

Still on first windshield. No cracks.

You might check with your insurance but I have a glass breakage rider that I pay an extra three or four dollars a month for and I don't have to pay a deductible for windshield replacement. But I guess you could argue that three or four dollars a month adds up to a deductible over the year. I had my jk for 10 years and I think I had one or two windshields replaced. In the two years I've owned my jl I've had two and need another but the crack I have now runs right up the middle and isn't noticable so I'm leaving it alone, especially now that we are going into winter and they'll be putting sand and salt down. Thats the price we pay for having a vertical windshield.

I’m on windshield 5 in almost 3 years. It’ll be 6 once the current chips (at 7) spread or I get another crack that interferes with my vision. Stopped going through insurance b/c even though they’ll replace it, it does effect your insurance when you renew. Ask me how I know ?

The dealership applied some kind of $991 magical coating on mine. It's supposed to help prevent chips and cracks. ?

2 months old and I got a chip /crack.

The good news. That coating gave my windshield a 5 year unlimited mile warranty. So, if it needs to get fixed or replaced as many times as needed in 5 years. It will. ?

Just went and counted. I'm at 9 chips/stars and 2 cracks. 1 crack is 8" horizontal and then turns and goes another 8" vertically. Then I have the first one I ever got, a nice 30" crack from the lower driver's side across the windshield and then halfway up to the mirror.

I'll replace it when it starts leaking water or I go to sell the Jeep. Not before.

Funny thing was . . . the other day my son said, "Dad, why don't you get a new windshield?" I replied, "Because as soon as I do, another rock is going to . . . " CRACK!

A rock hits right in front of his face! No kidding on the timing. He looked at the crack, then back at me, and said, "Oh, yeah, I see."

Then we died laughing.

After reading about our glass and this thread I texted my agent yesterday and added $0 deductible glass coverage on my Progressive policy at a nominal cost $12 every 6 mos.
