Short story - wife's car was totaled in October (no injuries), she's always wanted a Jeep, found a 2018 JLU Sport S for a good price, so she's been a happy Jeep owner for the past 4 weeks. Jeep is 100% stock as far as I know.

I've enjoyed reading this forum on various topics for the past few weeks. I'm sure my wife will have me making many mods to the Jeep in the years to come. Before mods, I have 4 things to fix:

1. right front wheel bearing is making noise
2. Tailgate power lock
3. spots showing wear on inside of soft-top on both sides maybe 1 foot back from the front edge
4. 2nd key fob can be used to start the Jeep and remote start occasionally works, but lock/unlock never work

Welcome. Battery Is probably dying in fob. I have an ā€˜18 and both of mine died recently. It’s a 2450 size. Did you have a mechanic verify it’s the bearings and not a seized brake caliper that wore down the pad?

I tried a new battery in the fob to no avail.

It's definitely the bearing - quiet when going straight or to the right, noisy going left.

Welcome aboard Captain! Just start with the basics from over the years. Check to make sure all fuses are seated properly in the fuse box, get the aluminum steering gear box replaced with the steal box (to help with the wandering if you have that problem) and since it's a 2018 have the frame welds checked out. Other than that, have an ass load of fun!! :like:

Thanks!

It does seem to require a bit more steering input than I'm used to, but nothing too bad.

Now I have to research frame welds lol.

Hub assemblies are cheap and simple to replace so long as rust hasn’t eaten anything apart yet.

That's a known issue caused by the folding frame rubbing on the soft top fabric, particularly when driving with the top lowered for extended periods. It's occurred on every convertible that I've owned.

Small wear spots -- what I call witness marks -- recently appeared on my JLU too. I've some upholstery adhesive already on hand, to be used to secure the patches in place.

There was a very small batch among the first JLs that rolled out of the plant with a poorly welded front cross member, where the track bar mounts.

FCA issued a recall and was reported to have fixed them all.

My 2018 Sahara didn’t come with any frame issues.
