Bought a new 4xe on Friday and took it Glamping. I was able to charge it overnight while I was out, both times I charged it the battery only got to 98% before the charger turned off. Is this to be expected with the oem lvl 1 charger?

It’s best to avoid pushing a lithium-ion battery to 100 percent while you’re charging it back up. The use of partial-discharge cycles can greatly extend the life of the battery, and charging to less than 100% capacity can extend the battery’s life even further.............That's why the Jeeps charger stops at 98%

Except that doesn't usually happen. It usually goes to 100%

There are people that have it occasionally stop and 98-99%, but it doesn't seem to have a specific trigger. I wouldn't stress about it.

it will do that sometimes on a level 2 charger as well. I don't have a kill-a-watt on my level 2 charger so I can't always see it, but every now and then even on the level 2 charger it will still show charging 3-4 hours after plugging in. If I see that while charging at home I usually just unplug and replug and it immediately jumps to fully charged.

This past weekend I was travelling and charged a couple of times on a Level 2 Chargepoint charger - from their app you can see a plot of the power going into the jeep over time. One of the times when it was taking forever to get to 100% I noticed the power had dropped off to basically nothing.

Nothing to fret over.

Ya, that's not a thing with lithium. You should fully charge lithium to 100%. It's letting it sit at 100% for extended periods of time that can be detrimental. That's why a lot of new devices will let you set a "full" charge differently from a 100% full.

100% works well in theory.......But, if overcharge a Lithium battery, you will ruin it.

How accurate is that charge meter.............besides these types of values are usually software driven.

Consumers love when their vehicles give them 100% !

Remember that these batteries "100%" is likely set around 90% by software. This gives overhead in the battery to compensate for degradation over the life of the battery. So after 10 years the 100% might actually be 100% (and over that time the owner sees no difference). This is how Tesla explained they were able to extend the range of thier batteries during emergencies.
